What platform did the Liberals have other than Harper is a kitten eating monster?
I don't profess to know anyone else's situation, but perhaps they had an exceptional candidate in their riding, that GASP! wasn't a Tory. Maybe they had an idiot candidate that was a Tory (see Tony Clement). Maybe they were concerned with Harper's stance on medicare. Actually taking the time to consider their options is a sign of intelligence, blindly voting for a party no matter the candidate, platform, etc. is ignorance.
Locally, the best candidate for my riding was a Liberal. He voted against party lines with gun registry and same sex marriage, because that is what his constituents wanted. He sacrificed his own political career (no cabinet post even though 4x an MP) because his constituents came first. However, I couldn't put an 'x' beside his name, because I couldn't support Martin. There are other options than Tory Blue, and other reasons why some may vote Liberal/NDP/Green/Bloc

And the balance of power goes too... the shock radio guy from Quebec. Not officially, although it could easily happen at this point.

Just so everyone understands. In Canadian democracy you do not vote for the candidate. You vote for the party. The candidate is mearly an empty suit / business dress. Unless your candidate is a senior cabinet member, he or she doesn't matter.

I am taking this as directed at me. In the Canadian democracy, you can only vote for your candidate, and hope that the representative you put in, actually has the parts to represent you, and not just their party. The incumbant MP in my riding, did that, he voted (and yes, that is why he counts) by the will of his constituents not by party line.

I am unimpressed with the amount of seats the Tories won. This is a liberal country afterall it would seem. Unless the Libs really **** around in the House of Commons, I think they will probably win a majority next election.

Says who? Some people vote for the leader, some people vote for the local candidate, some people vote for political ideology. No one is wrong.

Prime Minister from Calgary.... has a nice ring to it. Plus a Flames win to top it off.

Too bad it wasn't a majority but I'll take it. Apparently a lot of voters cowardly went back to the Liberals in the greater Toronto Area.

Why cowardly? Because they don't agree with you? Geez, Conservatives look to have taken 7 seats in QC at this point, which will really help for future representation.
Take the win an build on it. If Conservative do a good job then they will get a majority next time.

Well, not particularly happy with the seat totals....but the Con minority is a good thing.

Unbelievable to me that the Libs held over 100 ridings...mind boggling actually.
