I've always wondered where the children will play in Rosscarrock....

Those copper stations look really sharp. I like 'em.

What a great project for the city of Calgary.

A couple of the projects, that pedestrian bridge and the Sunalta station, I had no idea what the look of them was when it got underway.. and I'm so happy how cool looking they are turning out to be.

Everytime I go by Sunalta station I keep hoping it's a secret Calgary Hadron Collider.

From the start, I was kind of worried about how Sunalta Station would turn out, but it looks great so far. Hopefully the plaza in front of it turns out well too.

I keep trying to think of reasons why this line won't open early. Seeing the catenary starting to go up is encouraging because I wasn't sure of the timeline for that. However, I'm starting to think that the City of Calgary-managed 11th Street Station if anything will be what holds the line up from possibly opening early. It's just going so slowly with nothing resembling a station appearing yet.

But with construction, things can happen so fast. One day there's no building, next day there is.

In terms of the rest of the stations, won't 11th St be pretty simple?

How fast did they get the city hall stations up?

City Hall closed May 3rd 2010. One side was opened permanantly at the start of Stampede and the other side wasn't opened permanantly until a couple weeks ago.

11th Street doesn't have to deal with an active transit corridor running through the middle of it, but I'm not optimistic it will be open such that the entire West line can open early.

Transit will need a number of weeks and possibly as long as, say, 3 months to test the line and that can't happen until the track and electrical work connecting the West LRT to the rest of the system is in a state where it can be used to get trains through for testing. That connection point is at 11th Street.

I don't think it's really the unions. A general contractor is hired to do the stations. It's more the outlay of funding, the structure of the City contracts, and the City's end of the management.

While driving in to work today, I noticed that two sets of lights have been installed on the 17th Avenue overpass over Sarcee Trail. I thought/hoped it would be free-flowing, but I guess not. The intersection seems a bit more complex than I originally thought.

The overpass certainly is coming along quickly. Road has been paved, curbs up, etc.

I live 2 blocks from 37th in a house...and have yet to see anything bad in the area.

These are a bit old - August -, but I hadn't noticed them before so I figured I'd post them.

Spoiler!

Also, the 17th/Sarcee Interchange is due to be open before the end of the year.

I think the line itself could be in a state such that it could be open early, but the City managed Kerby Station won't be able to make that schedule and the whole line will end up opening on time in December 2012.

Just drove over the 17th Avenue bridge today - pretty slick! It's still being worked on, but it's a cool feeling going over Sarcee so easily.

I'm looking forward to going under there daily on my commute. It hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be during construction, but it'll be nice to have traffic flowing freely now.
