...seriously - lots of businesses don't mind if you pay with change... it saves them a trip to the bank!
Agreed, I worked at a liquor strore pretty much all through college and I never got why people always apologize when they give you a decent amount of small change. It seriously really helps, tills are constantly low on small change (people that pay with a ziplock bag full of change are a different matter though).

The people who pay with $50's and $100's for $8 items, THOSE are the ones who should be apologizing. Especially at the start of a shift, man that screws ya.

Aren't a lot of companies kicking off their United Way campaigns this year?

I assume money/change in that direction can't hurt - I got rid of all my change that way recently.

I used the Canadian Tire one once and I'm pretty sure it was only 4%. I could be wrong though, as it was awhile ago and I wasn't really paying attention.

To me, the cut they took was well worth the convenience of dumping a container of change into a slot and walking away with cash two minutes later.

It was 4% the last time I went. Cashed out $20 worth of pennies for a case of beer. And yes, I'm scottish.

Which CT has the machine?
I got told one of the machines was charging 14%...seems a little high, but what I was told.
Reminds me of the SNL 'Change Bank' lol

Do any safeways not in the ghetto have a machine? I wouldn't mind throwing it on a safeway GC that I'd use anyways.

When I went, the only one that had one was the country hills location. There may be more by now.

I've never seen any of those machines at Canadian Tire or Safeway. Has anyone else? Any other suggestions?
NM didn't know how old the thread was.
