Default End of an Era in Calgary; The Savory Lodge closes it's doors

I wonder where my prostitution, drugs, and torture cases will go.

RIP Savory Lodge, you were a Calgary icon.

^^ Excuse me? My family has owned and operated the Red Carpet for almost 20 years.

Kidding, I just go there for the crack.

If you google image savory lodge the 8th picture or so shows the place with a police forensic cube van in the parking lot.

Ummm, if you want the trashiest of trashy lounges, Tom's House of Pizza, Macleod trail.

2 pack a day barmaid with the Bea Arthur voice - check
Same 3 65 year old alcoholic guys comparing whos dad was a better soldier back in WW2, then eventually going to blows - check.
AT LEAST 1 Boston and 1 Ozzy song (preferably No more Tears) on the Jukebox every hour - check
Same furniture from when I worked there in 1992 - check

The place is awesome... and it is one of those places where it is best to go alone. I like to ad unpredictability of the experience.

Is it just closing or is something else going there instead?

I watched a movie on TV about 18 months ago called Comeback Season with Ray Liotta, which was filmed in Calgary.

There's a scene where Liotta's character is staying at a motel after his wife kicked him out (or something,) and I believe it to be The Savory Lodge where this was filmed. I only recognized that it was even in Calgary due to the sound wall opposite 16th ave, then I did some Goggling.

You guys have terrible taste in trashy lounges. For a good time, it's the Shamrock every time.

The Savory Lodge use to be The Circle Inn. We had an after grad party there way back when.

Now we know why the Savory lodge is dead. Business license was revoked because of this rape incident

Why does everyone get all up in arms over a little rape?

At least the police were creative?

Three police undercover operations targeted the Savory Lodge, including the aptly named Operation Un-Savory and Operation Un-Savory 2.
