I spent 90 minutes on hold getting Broadband 50 activated, and another 90 minutes last night getting it reset on their end so the speed would actually get above 3 mbps. Now none of my mobile devices will connect to the network. I think Shaw is trying to make me kill myself.

Great, I just got my Broadband 50 modem in the mail yesterday. Not sure I want to call...

Did you hook up the modem before calling or after making contact with them? I don't want to unhook my other one and get this one all setup and then call and sit on hold forever with no Internet in the house. Maybe I'll wait until the weekend so I don't waste what little time I have at night during the week, on hold.

White Tiger, I've had speed issues when I tried going up to BB100 but never outages for days or anything. That's pretty crazy.

Luckily guy had another modem in his truck. He will not be leaving until I can get some confirmed wifi as well as fast speeds on a speed test. And of course gateway working!

That was a problem with the authentication server. It's fixed now.

We asked them if there was any way to get a tech out here faster, or were we really going to be without internet for 3 weeks. We were told to just hope it turns back on.

Amusingly enough, it did. Then a couple days later, it drops off again. Again we call. Again we are told to hope it just comes back on by itself while we wait for a tech.

This is pretty f'ed up. After years of stable, no issue use, the service suddenly becomes that wonky?
I've had problems lately as well. I just power off the cable modem and when it's powered back up things work fine.

Leave VOD alone get back to iPhone app making. Yamer can find his adult contemporary Latin chamber music elsewhere.

We were actually the ones to notice it.

I'm glad to hear they are good with twitter now. I was having some issues with Shaw about six months ago and took to twitter to try and get help. I tweeted them a few times each and never heard back from any of them. At the time, their posts were only every few days.

Odd story. It tells you to hook it up, then call them to activate it. I did that but tested it while on hold and everything worked and was quite fast. About 5 seconds later the CSR came on so I figured I'd go through the process. After he "set it up" for me it didn't seem to work very well and the speed dropped off quickly.

Big pain so far. Good speeds on my computers but my devices don't seem to be much faster (still getting about 3mbps on my iPhone and iPad). They've finally connected to the network but now my airplay speakers won't connect to the network and my AppleTV won't keep a connection to the iTunes in my basement. I'm going to try and run it through my old router which never gave me these problems and see how that goes.

So got the broadband 50 modem yesterday and hooked it up. It was working pretty good and this morning before I head out to work and I have no Internet. I don't have time to check on it and head out, come home tonight and it is still not working so I call them. Get the call back for sometime in the next two hours so I head out to grab a few things, when I get home there is a message from shaw saying that they sent out a software update to the smc modems and took them all offline across the city!

So now they will come out sometime tomorrow between 8 and 5 to replace the modem. Yeah cause I have nothing better to do on a Saturday then sit around all day and wait for them.

You'll be lucky if they even show up. My appointment last Saturday was between 8 and 10 AM. They called after 3 to reschedule, now I'm booked in for tomorrow between 3 and 5 PM.

Well I didn't have enough time to wait around all day for Shaw to show up so I went to the shaw building on Barlow to exchange my modem. There was a huge lineup, I waited about an hour. When I got to the front and exchanged my modem and they said that the SMC modems were so bad they are now giving out Cisco modems.
Just hooked it up and working so far. Lets see if it lasts overnight....

I don't even know why Shaw bothers to book service appointments if they're not going to keep them. That's two full Saturdays wasted waiting for those morons.

That sucks. I've had Shaw says they showed up when they didn't. When I called in and got put through to the installer, he said he was at my house and that I wasn't home. He was on another street with a similar name.

On a different/good note, I booked an instal on Thursday and they installed it on Friday. I wish every appointment was that easy.

I think shaw is throttling BT downloads hard. Is anyone else getting horrible speeds?
