New Pack A.D. album came out on Tuesday. Much more punk/garage than their previous albums - they aren't sounding as heavily influenced by the White Stripes or the Black Keys, and they wear their new sound well.

Listened to the new Metallica/Lou Reed single. I didn't think it was possible for them to make St Anger sound good. I was wrong. What a piece of crap.

New Korn record this December 6th called The Path Of Totality. New album will be a new direction for the band using a more electronic sound like the single they did with Skrillex called Get Up.

It's here. The first full song from the Lou Reed and Metallica collaboration. A five minute song called "The View", from their album Lulu, due November 1 in North America on Warner Bros. and October 31 everywhere else on Universal Music. Check out the lyrics at Soundcloud.

I don't hate it.

The first few singles from this album have been amazing. Huge Coldplay fan, can't wait to hear the rest of it.

You're the only one I've heard that from so far. I was excited at first as I figired it would be Metallica playing their instruments and singing Lou songs. I had no idea he'd be contributing vocals. Yuck.

Really? You didn't expect Lou would be singing? This song reminds me of Cash doing Hurt. Or, The Fall.

There are lots of funny comments under the track (scroll over the tiny pictures - reaction is mixed).

I can see why people hate it. There's pretty much no melody in the vocal and even the main riff is pretty bland. Crazy pretentious lyrics. Very odd song. Doesn't hold a candle to Cash covering NIN, which was just a great song covered very authentically by a great artist. This song is just bad.

Fiest, Metals [77]:

http://www.metacritic.com/music/metals

Reportedly a darker record - don't expect pop hits like 1,2,3,4.

And now to address the break-dancing, earbud-wearing, silhouetted elephant in the room: there's no "1234" on this record. In fact, though it's by no stretch a difficult album, Metals feels deliberately uninterested in courting pop audiences or crafting easy hooks, which is why it feels like such a refreshing and slyly badass statement of artistic integrity. At the same time, this is also the reason it doesn't reach The Reminder's heights. It's a bit too even-keeled to incorporate the sense of pastiche that made her earlier two records so exciting. [Pitchfork]

Just a few songs that catch your attention : A commotion, How come you don't go there, and the circle married the line. I would imagine this is playing at just about every Starbucks in town. Album could use a little more caffeine though!

What would you say about this super-group?

http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/2011/10/06...enn-story.html

Lady Gaga is in talks with Queen guitarist Brian May to take over as the band's new lead singer.

"We talk about going out on the road all the time but there’s a bit of a singer problem to put it mildly. We get a lot of offers to work with other people. I worked with Lady Gaga and she’s very creative and is someone we’ve talked about singing, fronting the band with. She’s not just a singer, she writes her own material."

I think I just felt some splashback from the gay community's collective orgasm.

Joe Henry's new album, 'Reverie' comes out today. For a limited time, you can listen to the entire thing or individual tracks, streaming from NPR.

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/29/140917...?sc=tw&cc=twmp

Anyone who follows my contributions on music threads on this board would know I have huge respect for Joe Henry - I think he's one of the top singer/songwriters currently working, and four of his last five albums have been brilliant (his previous release, Blood from Stars, was a little underwhelming to me, and other than a couple stand-out tracks, it never grew on me the way I hoped it might). This album has a similar sound to Blood from Stars, but my first impression is that the songwriting is a little more comfortable here, while still having a great, stripped-down acoustic bluesy quality that Henry was exploring on his previous album. Also some great guitar work on this album form Marc Ribot, who's sound should be very familiar from his various appearances on Tom Waits albums.

If listening to individual tracks on the NPR site, I recommend checking out Deathbed Version (which showcases Henry's approach of opening up the windows in his home studio to capture neighbourhood sounds, in this case a mournful howling dog), along with Grand Street and Sticks & Stones.

The Parlor Mob's album "Dogs" came out today as well. I strongly recommend checking it out. Awesome band that not enough people know about yet.
