Nothing official, but it's just common sense, isn't it? Jesse is not a leading role on the show. Aaron Paul should not be up for Lead Actor.

What am I missing here?

It's tough because I think Jesse is closer to a co-lead than most of the characters in the supporting category, and he has been as prominent as Walter this season and probably last year as well

but the show is still more about Walter so I consider him the lead, with Jesse as a supporting

I really hope Hank and Gus get nominations for this season though, both have been great and should have gotten them for season 3

Kind of OT, but since we are talking about the great acting in Breaking Bad, does anyone else really want to see the movie Drive knowing that Bryan Cranston has 3rd billing in it?

You're not missing anything, you're over thinking it. It's Hollywood baby, common sense isn't used.

Aaron Paul has been a major force on Breaking Bad this season, and in the past, and some major plots revolve around him. Yeah the whole focus is on Walt, and it's his show, but Jessie isn't just a supporting character.

Bob Odnynkirk is a supporting player.

Maybe I am overthinking. I'll give you that.

I just can't put him in the same breath as Cranston and Hamm etc. Once again, not taking ANYTHING away from his performance. He did a better job IMO than guys like Michael C Hall, Steve Buscemi and Hugh Laurie in 2010, but his role isn't big enough for me to justify putting him in that category. That's all.

Jesse is not the lead actor of Breaking Bad. If Jesse were to die in this Sunday's episode, it would suck, but the season (and series for that matter) would go on. If Walt were to die on the other hand, the entire show comes to a grinding halt. That's the difference. Walt is so engrained into this show. Virtually every single character in the series is given screen time because of Walt. The same can't be said for Jesse. Walt IS Breaking Bad.

While I don't disagree with what you're saying, that isn't some sort of evidence that Jessie isn't a leading character.

I would disagree with the opinion that the show goes on without Jesse. I think if Jesse had been killed off in the first season as was planned, then yeah, the show would have gone on perfectly fine without him. But I think he's fully engrained in the series now that it would be a huge loss. It could continue on, but I don't think it would be as good. A big part of the show for me is the relationship between Walt and Jesse. Without Jesse, it's just Walt versus everyone else. To me, that makes him a lead. I couldn't care less what the Emmy description of lead is to be honest.

His role isn't big enough?

Not only is he a part of the Cooking for Gus story line, but they've focused on his interactions with Mike lately and have spent a tonne of time on him personally trying to cope with having killed Gale - the party at his house, the breakdown at the group session, his interaction with Andrea and her son, etc. all of which are storylines more ore less independent from Walter.

If you had to identify the most prominent character it would probably be Walter, but Jesse is a close second, and is there as a fully formed character in his own right, not just to support the Walter story.

What is Walt's relation to Andrea and her son? To Badger and Skinny Pete? To the narcotics counselling group?

Can we agree on Walt being a #1, and Jesse being a 1A?

And a little bit of memory and some perspective.

That was a wicked episode. I couldn't help but laugh during the fight scene when Jesse tried to hit him with the lamp.

Poor lamps always get it

That was the most likable I've seen Skylar in the whole series. She kicked ass in that episode. Wonder where all of Ted's money has gone. I'd guess he's into the blue meth.

Gus was total badass walking out while the bullets were flying.

Great episode. I was laughing my ass off watching the fight between Jesse and Walt. Great way to end the episode. And Skyler is a genius in how she tried to help Ted. Comedy gold when the auditor said "I'm beginning to see why everything is the way it is". Her money laudering scene was done quite well also. I am very intrigued about how Gus will handle the Cartel. I wish he would have explained to Jesse (while the viewers were watching) so that we could finally understand exactly what is going on.

Thought the last 3 episodes have been incredible. This season has gone from fast paced, to slow, and back to full speed. Awesome.

I like a bit of intrigue and mystery. I appreciate writing that assumes the viewer is of at least close to average intelligence and doesn't need everything explained to them.
