Default ebay question

So I sold an item on ebay for a substantial amount on Friday, the purchaser is a new account and has yet to respond to any of my correspondence even though I have tried twice.

Couple questions:

1) How long should I wait to accept payment or hear back?
2) If I don't hear back besides giving someone negative feedback is there anything else you can do?

I don't want to let this item sit to long and want to get it sold ASAP

I don't think sellers can give negative feedback anymore.

Make sure you send him a message through the eBay "contact the buyer" link. It documents that you have sent it to him, and makes sure his spam filter isn't blocking your message.

Also why my auctions state payment must be received within 24 hours; and Paypal only.

I have stated pay pal only but I didn't stipulate when payment to be made.

What would you concider common courtesy to wait for a reply? The guy's email and some sluething says that he is a dr at u of Alberta so I'm sure the money is there but him being a new ebay member has me questioning his intent to buy.

I believe the common practice is to send him 96 e-mails demanding payment.

Seriously though, I'd relax for another couple of days. For all you know, the guy could have been away for the week-end which may explain the lack of a response so far.

Yeah, some people new to eBay skip over that whole "contract to purchase, etc."

I usually send the payment info, wait a day, then a follow up email. Keep it positive- things like "If something has changed and you do not intend to purchase, please let me know so I can work with you."

Some people will even bail on a purchase after they have walked into a store and spoken to somebody face to face. Those people will think nothing about bailing on an online purchase. The other thing is people think eBay is the company selling the product; not some random guy.

I did send the payment info on Saturday and then a "nice" e-mail yesterday asking if he was still interested in purchasing. Haven't heard anything yet so I think I will send another one just suggesting he contact me within a timeline and if he doesn't the item will be re-listed.

I would say you should suggest a timeline. As BF mentioned be mindful of when he may have bid vs. end of auction. If it was a 10 day auction, he bid on day 2 and won; he could be unaware. But if it was a "buy it now", or he bid right towards the end- he knows.

Give him a timeframe to respond, saying that "I'm sure you understand that if I don't hear from you I do need to re-list this."

Was there a number of bids? Sometimes you can use the "second chance" option to sell it to the 2nd highest bidder.

It wasn't an auction. It was actually a make an offer and I accepted type thing.

If you relist it don't forget to submit request to cancel the purchase or whatever the process is called now, in which this guy has to agree to on the other end so you can get your ebay fees on the transaction rebated.

It also blocks the ability for this guy to leave you feedback.

If you sent the payment info on Saturday and today is Monday maybe he just was away for the weekend? I'd wait until Wednesday at the latest, then do what topfiverecords suggests and re-list it. Send an email today though just reminding him to pay and what not.
