The full effects will only be felt 50 years down the road when the generation that quit smoking isn't a drain on our health care system.
Too bad that generation will be morbidly obese, so they might as well stick to smoking.

I think allowing people to smoke in front of you or near you is just common courtesy. As long as it's not blowing right in your face, is a little smoke really going to hurt you? People interrupt your life all the time for their selfish needs, and I do the same to others.
Sometimes I get drunk and a little too loud and obnoxious. Should no one ever get drunk in the event they annoy someone else? Or should we all just relax and allow people to blow off steam?

Should we never smoke in public because it annoys someone else? Or should we all just relax and allow for someone to sit outside with a cigarette?

Frankly, the stress one feels from getting uptight about people smoking around them is almost certainly worse for them than a breath of secondhand smoke.

Alberta teens buck national anti-smoking trend
Survey shows increase of more than 10,000 youth lighting up in 2010

	Quote:

		| Albertans bucked the trend in the 20,000-respondent survey, with the number of smokers growing nearly a full per cent to a total of 560,000.
But a 4.5-per-cent increase in Alberta’s teen smokers particularly caught the eye of Les Hagen, spokesman for Action on Smoking and Health, a not-for-profit society advocating for anti-smoking measures.

The increase — from 12.4 per cent in 2009 to 16.9 in 2010 — means the number of Albertan teen smokers jumped from just under 30,000 to just over 40,000.

The number of Albertan teens who have never been smokers dropped from 84.5 to 81.7 per cent, while the average number of cigarettes they smoked per day jumped from 13.9 to 14.9.

		| Youth aren’t the only ones taking up tobacco. An estimated 36,000 smokers were added to Alberta’s total in 2010, a jump to 18.8 from 18.0 per cent. Males led the way with an increase from 20.1 to 21.6 per cent, while females nudged up from 15.9 per cent to 16.0 per cent. |

It's wild how smoking went from everywhere a few years ago to almost invisible today in Alberta.
Say I decided to take up smoking - how would I know what brand to try if I can't see the packages of cigarettes behind the counter? Do I have to rely on recommendations?

Well, being it's 2011 now, I'm sure kids are smart enough to search google.

The only thing I don't like about the trend in smoking is the social stigma and difficulty of doing it in today's society.

Let me guess, you like the way society looked towards smoking in the late 80's/early 90's?

I like the direction the stigma with smoking is going - it should go further. Anything to get fewer people to start and more to quit thier filthy and disgusting habit.
