Good thread
Normally I can sit through crap movies until the end, but one I couldn't stand was the Sweetest Thing with Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate
Basically it's those two screaming for 2 hours

It didn't do that for me. It was one of the most boring movies of all time. character development, character development, character development, three text screens explaining the "action" rather than showing it, the end.

I really liked Unbreakable from the beginning until the end (except for the text that comes up at the very very end - unnecessary). I enjoyed the idea that this guy has these abilities but has no idea and slowly starts to discover them.

Worst movie ever?
Summer of Sam.
That movie is the crappy movie yardstick by which I measure all other crappy movies. As in "Wow, that was a terrible movie. Oh well, at least it wasn't as bad as Summer of Sam."

I'm with you Fotze, I liked Unbreakable and Magnolia quite a bit. And Mullhulland Drive and the Star Wars prequels. I think I am going to have to check out some of the others in this thread too, it is like a list of my favorite movies!
How about Cruel Intentions 2 and American Psycho 2 for 2 of the worst ideas for sequels ever! Oddly, they both starred the same guy.

I liked both Magnolia and Unbreakable as well.
Another movie I liked that everyone seemed to hate was Punch Drunk Love. I liked it, but most people I know hated it.
Movies I hate are the Scary Movie series that parodied the Scream series. I didn't find them funny at all. And I don't really have a problem with the absurd humour type movies -- I love the Naked Gun series.
As for more recent movies, I agree with some of the posters above -- Four Brother was horrible. No plot at all, just lame excuses for fight scenes that weren't even good.

Agreed, I thought that having hot chicks in it would make it watchable, but it just made me hate them.

Dogville was terrible as well. That is the only movie I think I've ever not been able to finish.

It's Pat the movie...based on the SNL character. Terrible.
The English Patient. Boring. It felt like going to church three times. Straight.
and finally, although I will take endless criticism, the Lord of the Rings. You pick which one, although I didn't bother with the second two. The first one I found quite boring. Although not as bad as It's Pat or the English Patient, I would say it's probably the most over-rated, over-hyped movie of all time.
My brother hates the Horse Whisperer.
I have to agree with About Schmidt. It lacked a story.

The Mexican, starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. This is supposed to be a comedy, yet I don't think I laughed one single time.

I have a deep disdain for Garden State. I found it very whiny.
But in terms of bad, bad movies:
Cyborg (with Jean Claude Van Damme)
The Invader (it was on CTV the other night, I was oddly mesmerized by it, bonus points for starring William Baldwin)
The Triplets of Belleville (overtly pretentious animated film)
Do yourself a favour and watch Cyborg though... one of those 'so bad it becomes good' kind of films. Seems like a good movie to make a drinking game to.

Hey you ruined it for me! Actually no you didn't. I don't think I'll be seeing that.
Speaking of lame aliens, the ones in the movie "Signs" were about as tough. Couldn't stand up to a little freaking water? That's the solution? Talk about taking the easy route for the writer. You just know he had what was a cool idea and a decent enough movie up until that point and he just couldn't come up with a good ending so he said "what the hell, we'll throw some water on them" and wrapped it up.
That M. Night Shamalamadingdong fellow is awfully overrated.
Ebert and Newguy almost came to blows over the worst movie of last year. Ebert had it 1. Dukes of Hazard 2. Deuce Bigelow while the other guy had it 1.Deuce Bigelow 2. Dukes of Hazard.
Anyone see either one of these?
I thought Magnolia was a great movie. I'm surprised people really hated it.
