No, after Thomas whooped Burrows he stayed in and continued to play.

I'm torn. Incremental upgrades are all over the place here IMO. No one feature stands out to me, but together they make a better game. I don't know if it makes it a $60 game though. I think the offsides, replays, hits and ability to play as the jets will force my hand to get it, by I might trade-in for it to lessen the financial hit.

That's what I did... NHL 12 is now only going to cost me $9.99
And I like the demo so far. The skating feels different to me, a little heavier which is a tad more realistic then 11 and the game speed is slower which is a little more realistic as well.
I found the players to be a bit bigger too making it seem like there is less room on the ice, they actually look like full grown adults now.
My first game Chara put Burrows through the glass, and on the next play Lucic broke Raymond in half. Great game IMO

Thanks for articulating it better than I could. I knew the skating was quite a bit different, but didn't really know how to describe it.
I'm having a blast playing the demo. The minor details has made the game awesome. For example, traffic in front of the net, some new hitting/balance physics, and my personal favourite: players start labouring when they've been on the ice too long. They'll put their heads down and lumber to the bench.
Overall, the minor changes have made the game a ton better. Sort of like the new hitting physics in Madden 12.

I really wonder if this is what they were envisioning for NHL11. It certainly sounds like they got it all worked out, but what happened last year then?
Oh, and how is the wall function now? Is it still a sticky board of doom where any player going any speed can be brought to a standstill at the press of a button?

In every other NHL game I just tweak all the settings (game speed, shot speed, hitting power) until it feels how I like it... if I want realistic I watch a hockey game on TV.

My guess is time. They have less than a year to churn out a new version, so I think it's unrealistic to expect large sweeping changes.
As for the skating, I love that when you put it on to get your player to skate faster he looks a little less balanced and a little more frantic.

The first thing I noticed was the skating and the positioning. I really like this small change. I also noticed some good battles happening in front of the net.
Like one poster mentioned, these are very small changes but as a whole they make the game better.
I'm looking forward to starting my HUT, getting a card of a player named J. Eberle only to realize it's Johan and not Jordan.

I'm really impressed with the demo. Count me in as a fan of the changes made for this year's game.

To me this feels like a MUCH different game from NHL 11 and I racked in over 500 online games in 11.

It's funny, I played games of '08 and '09 with my buddy the other day. Man, did 09 feel like a pre-patch of NHL 11. The only difference was you don't have to charge up your passes and things like board play.
THe gap between NHL 08 and 09 was unbelievable though.
Quite the fun experience to play '08, '09, '11, then '12 all within 24 hours. If you've got a friend, give it a shot.. it's great to see how the game progressed.

One thing that bugged me to no end in the previous installments, is if you accidentally pressed the pass button twice, once just before the puck got to the player, he'd immediately pass it away to nowhere. Same with one timers. If the pass missed, the player would just be floating there with his stick in the air, until the puck either managed to find the stick, or was stolen possession.
Has this been fixed?

I'm loving the one-knee one-timers. Bartschi has scored 2 at the dot for me.

Finally downloaded the demo. I wasn't expecting much, but this feels a lot better to me than the last version. I like the dynamic goalies and think it creates more variation in what happens in front of the crease. More goal variety and random things happening. I also think scoring opportunities seem to open up more realistically than they did last season. While its not a revolutionary overhaul, everything just seems better. Pretty good.

Agreed. I'm loving it. Everything truly does feel more dynamic. There's more variety in the way goals are scored just because of the small things.
Defensive AI players sticks are a lot more active, and more importantly - the puck actually interacts with them.
Also, the way in which the goalies get interacted with seems to fairly well done. I've full on crashed into the goalie and was given a penalty (I had the puck so the play was called immediatly), but then I've also had one of my players very clearly checked from behind into the goalie which threw the goalie down to one knee and as this was happening I had the puck at the top of the faceoff circle and let go a shot which went in (and it counted).

Yeah I was wondering about that, I was playing HUT and the the USA goalie got knocked over and I had pretty much a wide open net but I let it go and a USA player came in and blocked it in the crease. I was wondering if it would've counted, but still the block was pretty cool.

When I was playing Be a Pro, Horton did a wrap around but knocked the goalie, scored, but it was waved off. It was BS though because Luongo dove, was barely contacted.
