Much better trade than dumping Lydman for a 3rd round pick.
Got Bourque and Kipper for a pair of second rounders.

2nd worst trade by Sutter after the Jokinen for pure garbage with the Rangers.

I believe the Flames only have 4 returning dman... kind of same situation.

Funny, on HFboards, it's the other way around with posters saying that Erixon has a much better chance of getting NHL time with the Flames than the Rangers which apparently have a much better dcorp.

Hard to imagine what really happened since both sides will have their tales..
Good return though for the Flames IMO, 3 picks in the first 2 rounds, that's way you start building depth in the organization and avoids the Erixon or Brodie angle in training camp. The organization can start getting Brodie ready for his role as the #6 Dman for the upcoming season.
Erixon isn't that special and I see him as a #3/#4 D-man at best. NYR has a good crop of dmen, so it's going to be hard for him to crack that lineup as well.

But this isn't a Drury situation, it's a draft situation. I don't like how the system works in that a player can refuse to sign with the team that drafted him for arbitrary or unstated reasons -> without consequences. A player that does this should not be able to re-enter the NHL draft or play with another NHL team for another year. There should be a waiver situation like with FAs who are free to not report to the team that traded for/signed them/have their rights like Nabokov and the Islanders. The consequence is that they are not allowed into an NHL organization until the next season.
|
I think that this would punish North American prospects much more than European but I totally agree in principle.

Depending how he's recovering from injury... Negrin could be another candidate as well.

Or the compensation should be similar to the loss.

Obviously this isn't an ideal situation, but I think it became pretty clear that Erixon was not going to sign with the Flames, judging by the comments from King and Feaster prior to today it seems to me like they were blindsided today by Grossman.
Since Erixon was more than willing to re-enter the draft the Flames got a pretty good return under the circumstances. It's hard to complain about landing a high skill forward prospect who was linemates with our best offensive prospect and the 45th and 57th picks when we were staring at a compensatory 53rd overall pick in the eye.
Fun fact: the last time the Rangers traded the 45th overall pick it turned into Latendresse...
other 45th Overall picks in the last decade include (rankings as per HF)... Ryan Spooner (Bruin's #2 prospect), Jeremy Morin (Hawk's #3 prospect), Zac Dalpe (Canes #1 prospect), Jeff Petry (Oilers #2 prospect), Guilaume Latendresse (25 goal scorer), Patrice Bergeron (30g/70pt player)

Yes, its really annoying. I really wish he'd just stick to hockey. I want to hear about hockey, not what Rob Kerr thinks about Flames fans.

well, the fans blaming Feaster should take a step back and think about the situation. Calling for his head and whatnot is ridiculous. Feaster was in a tough spot with a player who didn't want to play for the Flames, he wanted to play for the Rangers.

Any 2009 draftees unsigned, Flames or any other team?
Spencer Bennett played for the Heat, but was that an ATO, or did he have a contract?
I assume Bjorklund was not signed

He's really just the worst, he always has to put himself in the middle as a part of the story. No one cares about you Kerr, look down, read your paper, and get over yourself.

WHL.ca is terrible for listing players positions. The only surprising thing is that he is a center listed as a wing cause usually everyone is listed as a C.
One year Lethbridge had about 9 guys as C and 3 listed as wingers.

Rangers have a top 3 NHL d-corp in the making.
Good luck Erixon!

Can we look at this way in the salary cap era? The $ that would have eventually gone to Erixon as a top 4 d-man could now go to a future free agent top 4 d-man.

Sounds like my xbox Flames team... I may have gone overboard considering the fact we need a 1st line center, that I traded for all of the considerations...
