Default Off-season overview - UPDATED

We are still going to sim the AHL game tomorrow since it is for the championship - it felt lame to sim that game tonight.

But the season is basically done. Thanks for everyone for another great year for the CPHL.

The off-season now begins and in many ways that means there is actually more work to do. Please watch this thread over the next day or so - I'll be posting more details about approximate timelines, tasks, etc.

However, as a first step you can now start trading again - keep in mind players WILL be re-rated so if you are making deals now you are taking that risk that your guy could go down.

In a related note - our new Atlanta GM has a new job that prevents him from playing - we are in the process of finalizing the new person to take over the Thrashers. I have gone ahead and submitted deals to teams who are owed cap from ATL - please accept those deals so we can take care of that before the new GM comes aboard.

More to come soon...but in the meantime any questions about the above?

OK folks, here are some more details about our off-season approach.

As always, the first thing I ask for is your re-commitment to the game. The off-season is not a time to disappear – if you are heading away on vacation let us know. Teams are shaped during the summer so you need to be available for trade on MSN, PM – activity is still very important. And please don’t do something like quit right before the draft or free agency. If you are on the fence – decide now!

Here’s how things will happen :

1. Trading has resumed. Position changes are NOT allowed in the off-season. Again remember that you are dealing players before re-rates, so it is a risk. The watchdog is in the kennel during the off-season though you will still receive emails – ignore them.
2. If you release any player that has more than 1 year remaining on his contract that buyout counts against next year’s cap. You may release any pending RFA or UFA at this point if you have no intention of resigning them. You will not be hit with any cap penalty for next season as long as they are pending free agents. You may also release any ECHLers that you want.
3. There are two important threads to watch – the UFA thread and the draft pick thread. If you make a deal regarding either – you must post the details in that thread so we can keep it posted. Once we roll over the year – we lose this info from the main site. This is mandatory.
4. The immediate priority is the entry draft. It will be held the week before the NHL draft – Saturday June 18th starting at 10:30 am SHARP. Teams will need to have their draft list prepared. If you can’t make it you need to find a GM to make your picks and supply them with a list. You may not submit a list to the league – we have our hands full that day managing the draft. If you can’t find someone to make your picks and can’t make the draft – you may have to deal your picks. That being said – you will not be allowed to dump picks last minute for next to nothing. The league reserves the right to reject those type of deals and in that case the picks would be forfeited. For instance: If last minute you can't participate we will NOT process a deal where you trade 4 2nds for a 2nd next year or something in that area. Moreover, please do not send me a list last minute and expect me to make your picks. A GM did that last year and then was pissed off when they didn’t get the player the wanted.
5. Also please make note of this rule change (previously announced) re. the draft that takes effect for this draft: Following the NHL draft any player taken in the NHL draft NOT taken in the CPHL draft becomes a free agent. Any team can make an offer at a set day which will be announced by the league. Best offer wins. – So basically no more of the first email in gets the player type stuff.
6. See Doug's posts about the awards - your input is mandatory.
7. The rollover will be done sometime soon. Not sure when. Once the rollover is complete award and sponsorship moneys will be added.
8. Re-rates will then be completed – probably looking at early July
9. Following re-rates there will be a 10day-ish RFA re-signing period.
10. Following RFAs there will be a week long UFA re-signing period.
11. Following that - we will kick into UFA season.

No dates on the above yet – we will just knock things off the list as quickly as possible.

Those of you who have been around will have a pretty good idea about when this all happens.

Other things:
- If you owe another team a draft pick for the upcoming draft - take care of that sooner rather than later. Get on it!
- Update your trade block. Post what you need/want on the forum
- Until UFA officially begins no UFA signings will be done except for ECHL signings and players being added to the DB. And with those - please give us plenty of time to get to them. They are LOW priority. Coaches are also treated as part of the overall UFA crop and will be taken care of after we get through UFA players.

Any questions about any of the above?

Just a quick question regarding re-signing both players and goalies.

It seems that when we moved from V1 to V2 almost everyone's OV went up 2 or so (Eminger jumped from 63 to 66) due to the addition of the penalty shots and endurance stats that were added, and all the goalies seem to have jumped by 10+ OV.

Just asking because a guy like Mark Dekanich is currently a 66 OV goalie and hasn't played a game before the last ratings (only 1 in the NHL) and yet is due for at least a 4-5 million dollar re-sign and he's not even an nhler yet.

I know it's a little self serving due to the amount of free agents I have, but it's of no concern to me as I've got cap room to sign all the ones I want to even under current circumstances. I'm just curious as it will affect everyone pretty much equally as it'll make all goalies 10 million, whether they're starters or backups, let alone all the other players who'll get resigned for a 1-1.5 or so mil more per player.

I know that it'll help most teams with UFA/RFA's plan their team's budget for next season a little easier. Thanks.

It's not something to stress about - once we have the ratings stress we will, if needed, adjust the grids.

Goalies in particular saw huge increases in their ratings after we switched to version 2 of the sim. If that holds true with the re-rates than we will have a separate grid for tenders or something.
