One has to wonder how much life this series has left... they never give the developers enough time to seriously improve anything, their engine being one big factor. Battlefield 3 is leaps and bounds ahead of it technically, and is almost guaranteed to be a better game.
Hopefully consumers realize that too.

Series just gets more and more ridiculous. Did Michael Bay direct this one? MW1 was good because it had some semblance of plausibility.

I figured that they were going to end it with Black Ops. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a decent game. I'm sure they're aware that this could kill the series if it's bad. That being said, they could very well use the EA Sports business model and put little effort into it.
I won't buy it on release day. I'll wait and see.

Black Ops 2 is coming out soon as well.
They are still raking in buckets of money from the franchise and they don't update the engine because it's how they churn them out so fast with 2-3 teams working on the franchise all the time so they have one to release every 6 months.
People look at the Guitar Hero brand and see how it was killed off because of oversaturation but as long as the COD franchise still makes them money, I don't see them stopping anytime soon.
Black Ops sold the most copies of all video games of all time in the US and most other countries in the world. It made twice as much money as some of the Harry Potter movies.

I hope so. If I wanted realism and less explosions I'd play Rainbow Six.

i wonder if you'll be able to finish the single player story without firing a single shot, ala Black Ops. COD isn't so much a video game anymore as it is a cutscene movie on rails

I dont think I have played a single player version of the COD series since COD2 when the xbox360 came out . I buy it for the multiplayer aspect and play it often. I love it. I really wish they would bring back "war" game mode . it was my favorite.

I don't know why they would stop making COD games though...maybe the single player is getting a little ridiculous, but I don't know very many people playing COD for the single player...
I've been playing Black Ops live obsessively since Christmas, and even though I've beat the single player campaign, and don't see any real replay value there, I certainly haven't become bored with the game yet.

Modern Warfare 2 ruined the franchise, will wait to play it when it comes down to $20.
This game will make a ton of money and the mindless minions will go buy it. Sucks that the video game industry and online gaming is being ruined by these games.

I just got into COD at Modern Warfare 2, so as someone who has clearly followed the franchise longer, what made MW2 a franchise ruiner?

Kill Streaks, etc. They were cool at first, I'll admit I loved MW2, but that didn't last long. I played MW1 from launch until MW2 (2 years), I quit MW2 after a few months (I'm maybe level 50?). I prestiged 4 times in MW1, loved the game.
But MW2 just became so over the top ridiculous that it is unbearable. First of all, the hit detection is mind bogglingly terrible. And like I said the kill streaks are just stupid. Harrier after air-strike, after air drops, after turrets, after chopper, after human controlled chopper, over and over for the whole game.
People would camp, get their 3-4 kills and the mayhem would ensue, it was stupid.
MW1 was done properly when it was 3-5-7 and that's it. Made the game balanced, MW2 is hugely unbalanced and pile of dog sh** in comparison.
I haven't played Black Ops because I am turned away by the whole franchise, Activision is a piece of trash company, who won't stop pumping these games out every year, because the masses flock like blind sheep to buy the game.
The over convoluted story, I didn't mind. It was completely far fetched and ridiculous but it was still fun while playing it, even though it takes about 4 hours to beat on Hard.
MW1 ranks in the top 5 of best games ever in my opinion, had the best mission ever (Gillies in the Mist), and had one of the best multiplayer's ever.
It sucks, because good games like Transformers: War for Cybertron get so little credit, but have amazing multiplayers and no one ever plays them. While Call of Duty games have the most basic and mediocre online, yet millions play it.
I'd talk about the new game types they added to Black Ops, but I have played altered versions of most of them already just with MW1 and 2 by altering the settings and screwing around with friends.

Like I said, I never played COD prior to MW2, but I have played a decent amount od MW2 and a lot of Black Ops: I've definitely found that I prefer Black Ops over MW2. I haven't really found that the kill streaks in Black Ops are unfair. The real damaging kill streaks are 8 kills, 10 kills and 11 kills, so they're not happening 10 times a game, and there are no ridiculous kill streaks like the EMP and nuke.
I've played lots of FPS before, and I haven't found Black Ops' hit detection to be that bad.
My only complaint with Black Ops, is the match making. I'm almost on my third prestige, but I find that I get paired with a lot of 0/1 prestige players, matching up against guys who are 7+ prestige grouped together.

Yeah I found the online play in Black Ops better than MW2. Still not as fun as 1, for whatever reason.
Although I would have bought MW2 for the single player alone. The airport level was one of the best moments in recent video game history.

I prefer MW2 online over WAW and black ops. Also if you played Hardcore you wouldn't have to load a whole mag into someone to kill them.

Agree with the kill streaks better in BO vs MW2. For one, kill streaks don't count towards your kill total for another kill streak. You can't sit around and camp and wait for your kill streak to earn you another one. You want a bombing run, you actually got to kill 8 people with your gun

Had an idea!

I liked the original MW multi player.
The lack of dedicated servers for the PC version of MW2 made it suck.
