I just watched my favorite MLS player, Steve Zakuani, get a nasty tib/fib fracture.
Season over, surgery tonight and hoping for the best...

Not exactly MLS news, but the Nutrilite Canadian Championship starts tomorrow, with Toronto FC at FC Edmonton, and Vancouver Whitecaps at Montreal Impact.
This year the format has 2 2-legged semi-finals, with the winners facing in the finals. Winner qualifies for the CONCACAF Champions League for 2011-12.
Go....TFC?

I'm going up to Edmonton tomorrow for the game, pretty excited. I kind of hope FCE does well since they have a good number of promising young Canadian players on their squad. SHould be a good game either way

Good thing they moved this game to Commonwealth. I think SC Edmonton would have had trouble fitting the hundreds of fans who turned out in their usual pitch.

Wow it is just embarrassing to see how terrible the crowd is in Edmonton....
The crowd in Montreal isn't much better either. I was hoping to go to the game in Vancouver on the 4th, hopefully the crowd is better there (should be)

1-0 Vancouver and 3-0 Toronto, no surprises.
Also Real Salt Lake and Monterrey are playing the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League final as we speak, 1-0 Monterrey at the half, currently lead on aggregate 3-2.

Attendance in Edmonton was 5781 according to this link: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/soccer/Toronto+routs+Edmonton+Nutrilite+Canadian+Champion ship/4686478/story.html. Their home field seats only 3500 fans so even though the crowd looks bad in 60000 seat stadium, it's still extra revenue in the team's pockets
And to be fair, the Montreal game was going up against Game 7 of the Habs-Bruins. No sport would compete with that game.

the Vancouver - Montreal game today was pretty entertaining.. Van squeaked it with a goal in the second half of extra-time.. Terry Dunfield is quickly becoming one of my favourite players.
the Toronto - Edmonton game wasn't as good but FCE kept it respectable, they've got some good young Canadian players coming up
And to people chirping Edmonton for the attendance last week, the game had to be played at Commonwealth - Foote was out of the question because the CSA doesn't allow these games to be played on fields with gridiron lines.. the poor attendance itself was likely a result of a 6pm local start time and thunderstorm warnings that evening.. I highly doubt Calgary would have done any better, and I HATE edmonton haha
Anyways Vancouver - Toronto in the final, I think Vancouver's gonna come out on top, especially if the injuries TFC suffered tonight are serious.

I fell asleep at the start of extra time since it was 11. I only saw the last portion of the game from just before Montreal scored on the penelty but did enjoy the play of both teams during what I saw. Did not enjoy the pink kits for montreal much better ways to do pink

It was a pretty exciting game. Gerba had a chance to send Montreal to the final with about 30 seconds left in extra time but his header hit the crossbar.
Much more exciting then Toronto FC / FC Edmonton

Portland at Seattle tonight should be a dandy! They've been playing each other in some form for decades, and there is no love lost between fan bases. Classic big brother/little brother stuff...
Both teams have some of the best support in the league, and I'm hoping the derby will set a great example for the rest of the league to aspire to. 9pm on ESPN2 in the States.

Vancouver, Portland, Seattle and San Jose are going to create a nice quartet of rivals me thinks.

It's interesting to see San Jose lumped in there. I know the Earthquakes go back to the NASL days, but I haven't even heard of their rivalries with the other 3 teams...

People in Vancouver absolutely hate San Jose. It does carry back to the old NASL days, but people that remember it, especially people who were alive.
Before that Earthquakes game there was a lot of vitriol from people I know who are big into the 'Caps.
Edit- The fact we were likely going to be playing the Sharks helped a bit I'm sure.

2nd leg of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship is tonight in Toronto. Series is tied 1-1 on aggregate, but a 0-0 draw will send Toronto through to the CONCACAF Championship due to away goals being the tiebreaker.
The game is on Sportsnet One at 6 if anyone is actually interested!

Rafa Marquez, Cesc Fabregas, and Robin van Persie checking out the Red Bulls v. Rapids tonight:
Good seeing the EPL guys taking an interest in MLS, even though it may be more for Henry than anything. Or are the Arsenal players going on free transfers to Kroenke owned Colorado?
