How will the mess be over? We will continue talking about this for another year if they vote yes untill they either find an owner or move or both

It could be over pretty easily if the NHL dropped its asking price.
It could also be over pretty easily if Glendale would move off its requirement to have 23 years of cash flow to pay off its arena debt (that is if Goldwater would let them be more flexible).
You can always sell something for something if the price is right but, if you sit back and think about it, the NHL is asking $170 million for a franchise that will have no transportable value (Glendale's requirement that it be there for the duration of its debt committment).
That's a pretty exorbitant price for something that is essentially liquid only in the local market.
It's probably even an exorbitant price for a team in Kansas City.
And I'll need to see it to believe that a team would ever actually end up in Winnipeg again. If it does, it will be because that's the only place where the $170 million can be found and, seriously, is a team in Winnipeg really worth $170 million?
Drop that to $100 million and offers are dropping out of the sky from everywhere.

Sorry Scrollbar- but the fact is that Winnipeg getting a team is still not certain. Could it happen? Sure. Are people talking about it- yes. Are there interested parties- yes.
If you have a different opinion; state your position. There is no need for being condescending.

That's an interesting statement considering the reported asking price for the Thrashers is $110 million and they don't seem to be receiving a ton of offers. Of course, it could be that any interested buyers do not wish to keep the team in Atlanta, which tacks on a $60 million relocation fee. Hmmm, there's that magical $170 million number if my math is right.

Won't PHO still lose $30 - $40 Million per year, no matter what the purchase price is? I don't see that changing.

I'd venture to guess they'll lose a hell of alot more than that this year.. people aren't happy at all about the possibility of this going into next year. I'm one of them. I can't see myself going to games if this extends into the summer and we lose Bryzgalov and possibly Yandle, Turris..
Tired of it.
Glendale may drop $25 mill but the league is on the hook for the rest

Lessons learned in Phoenix? (Brunt)
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle2015894/
So just what have we learned here?
A whole bunch of things, none of them flattering to the NHL or the people who operate it, who have had the dirtiest of their dirty linen aired, have watched franchise values erode in marginal markets, have allowed their weakest link to distract everyone from their core strengths as a sport business, and who – directly and through their loyal minions – have told dozens of little white lies about “irresponsible reporting” and rosy finances and prospective buyers lining up.
We have learned the Atlanta Thrashers must be in significantly worse shape than the Coyotes
We have learned other than Winnipeg, there is not a single place in North America where the NHL could relocate a team next fall.
We have learned the true value of the Coyotes in Glendale is zero – actually, something less than zero
We have learned the Goldwater Institute taxpayer watchdog group was wildly underestimated by the NHL
We have learned the NHL owners, who have already sunk $140-million into buying the Coyotes, and more to cover losses beyond $25-million, are willing to follow their commissioner even farther down this dead-end road
Winnipeg, you’re still going to get your hockey team. It just looks like it will be a different hockey team.
Quebec City, if you can get the money and arena together by this time next year, say hello to Les Coyotes.
[I think it is already too late for any teams to be moving this year].

Going to be pretty hard to run a team on the league's dime, especially when other teams can outbid you. Oh well at least you kept your team.
Enjoy.

Avoiding a multi-million tax dollar ‘emergency’ in Glendale
http://goldwaterinstitute.org/article/6005
Tonight’s decision before the City Council would commit Glendale to spend another $25 million, for a second year in a row, to keep the Coyotes playing at Jobing.com Arena while a deal is made to sell the team to a new owner. If approved, Glendale will have another year for those negotiations. So there would be no reason to cut the time down to the wire. The city should take the time to study the economics and make all the information public, and it should not cut off any avenues for voter participation. This should not be another multi-million-dollar emergency.

I'm loving this mess. In fact I wouldn't mind a tv show, a movie, and a comic book series.
I hope it drags out another season, they lose 40 million, the NHL is on the hook for 15 more. Bryzgalov has left, along with other free agents. Hulsizer has vanished (to St.Louis?), the Thrashers have been sold to True North and moved to Winnipeg, and no one else is so much as making a phone call about this team if there has to be Glendale location guarantees. There are other teams that are going to be easier to achieve for relocation to Quebec City in the next couple years. Then what? Glendale is just going to keep spewing money each year until the residents do a lynching of city council or Goldwater drags that into court.

I've been saying that for months around here. This story was never relevant to Winnipeg/NHL, at least as far as the end result is concerned...
Anyway, this is the Phoenix thread so figured I would post that bit of info.

Yea I think my comments are somewhat good news for Phoenix fans in the sense that the TNSE safety net is not needed anymore.....that "might" bode well for the long term although that is far from a sure thing

Had an idea!

Well I would still be surprised if Winnipeg got a team.
I think the fanbase is here, but we lack a proper NHL building and enough corporate support for a team to make it.

Actually it is Glendale's fault for trying to gift a team to someone illegally.
