Putting Bin Laden through a long drawn out trial would not be in US interests, and possibly only serve to embolden Al Qaeda. Better dead than alive.

Always question your assumptions. Believing the government without questioning is downright pathetic.

Questioning the president for sending troops into an unwinnable war for no clear reason or questioning the president for killing their most wanted person. There's a big difference there.

Please answer this one simple question..
How and who benefits from waiting a week/month/year whatever, to announce the death of the worlds most wanted man?
For there to be a conspiracy, there has to be an endgame for those involved.
What, if anything, makes sense to sit on something this large?

It looked to me that it was mostly a crowd in D.C. of University students looking for a good time (it looked like a football tailgate). I'm not criticizing the reactions of the crowd but it felt like an awkward situation from my point of view.

That's the thing, Transplant. I'm ok with questioning the government. Infact, I encourage it. But why question something like this? There's no motivation for these opposing theories.

I didn't CLAIM they waited a week. I made a comment that the news was reporting he'd been dead a week.

Hey CC, is JTF-2 anywhere close to as bad ass in the scale of things as SEAL Team-6? Or is Team-6 just in its own special category of Jack Bauer ultimate bad ass-ness?

Sorry, let me rephrase:
Being skeptical about the president going to war, or being skeptical about the presidents claims that OBL is dead, are very different things.
By saying you "hope" he's dead, shows that you're skeptical. I don't understand why you would be.

I didn't say there was a conspiracy. I don't KNOW what the motivation is. I am saying, the story sounds pretty fishy to me.
I have questions that will probably never be answered.
Why DID Obama announce what very well could be the news of the century (so far) at 11:35 PM EST? What was the motivation there? Was that just random? If everyone was sleeping, why not just wait until today? Why did he wait over an hour from when the speech was planned to make his announcement?
Why were all the news channels reporting that Bin Laden was in the US and DNA testing had been done?
Where is the proof Bin Laden is dead? We are talking about (arguably) the worst enemy America, the biggest SuperPower in the World, has ever seen, the cause of death and destruction and the cause of hundreds of thousands of lives lost due to the chain of events that occurred after 9-11, and the government is telling me that the mastermind behind it all was shot and thrown to sea a few hours later to honour the Islam tradition?? I say screw the Islam tradition and show all of the people who have been effected by this piece of s**t and show some proof that he's dead.
Personally, I have no theory. I just want some answers, and I am not the type of person to sit back and take the crap that the government always shoves down the throats of the people.

I would also like to know this....
My guess
I would think that in terms of training and abilities JTF2 is as good as any other unit in the world. The separation may come in budget, technology and support network (as alluded to in the posted article)
Also, going by some of the vague reporting done on JTF2, it seems they may be more tied down by laws, bureaucratics and all that nonsense. Whereas US special forces are less constricted. (Patriot Act?)

Get it out before it leaks? Annouce it the minute you have confirmation. The fact that it's this big announcement, makes sense to do it right away.

bad information, bad sources. pretty simple, they reported a lot of speculation before the actual announcement. not really a big deal.

you have never been behind schedule before? Pretty clear the amount of calls Obama had to make before going public, former presidents, world leaders..it took longer than first thought?

OK...I am officially lost. Maybe there IS NO MOTIVATION other than to announce they got the bad guy?

Which flies directly into the face of any conspiracy that he wanted to do this just to boost his approval. As for waiting, I would believe that they wanted to make sure 100% that facial recognition technology left no doubt they got the right guy. But again waiting that long meant a smaller audience than would have normally been watching network TV say even 2 hours earlier.

They did?
DNA testing was only confirmed today.

Sorry...but they did the right thing by respecting the tradition of over a billion people worldwide.
As for proof...can we talk about that maybe more than 18 hours after the incident?
