Flying without ID?
Wondering if the good minds at CP can help me out with some quick advice.
We live in Victoria, and flew here to Calgary for the weekend. Last night, at a party, my girlfriend's wallet was stolen, including all of her ID (bank card, CC, SIN, DL, etc).
So we are bound to get on a plane at 7pm tonight to return home, and she has no form of ID. We are off to the Cop Shop to get a police report filed, but I'm not sure if that will be enough for security to let her get on the plane.
Any suggestions on getting home? anthing I can do to help westjet let us on the flight?

Yikes....AFIK they simply will not let anyone on a plane without proving who they are. It really isnt a Westjet issue but a Transport Canada regulation. Though I would suggest calling them and asking what you need to do...they should have the answers.
Also...maybe if you can pre-print your boarding pass and ticket...that would speed things up?

Borrow someone's driver's license and fix the rest of it later.

I was very close to missing a flight out a couple months ago. I made the reservation using shortened version of my name - Brad. My passport has long form - Bradley. The check in girl had to do lots of typing and made a few phone calls to ensure I got on. She made it quite clear to not make that mistake again.

Can someone back home fax/email photocopies of any ID she may have back in town? That may help, perhaps.

You'd think the police should be able to offer up a suggestion when you're there, if nothing else some kind of police report with her nmae etc. on it....then call Westjet, on second thought maybe call Westjet first and see what they say.

Need govt issued id, says westjet. Only govt I'd left is a passport locked in our house in Vic. We have the only keys to the house here in Calgary.

There is a very real possibility your girlfriend will be staying in Calgary for a few more days/hours until you can get some ID to her.
I'd start making arrangements for that.

jeez it sounds easier to get around the ID thing internationally then nationally.
I had my wallet stolen in New York, I went to the embassy and they confirmed who I was and my airline particulars and did a singed affidavit that got me on the plane and home.

I was boarding a plane in Vancouver before and some old lady didn't have ID. She basically told them that she was able to fly there without ID and after complaining, they let her on.
I doubt a young person could get away with it though.

Guests who have had their ID lost or stolen, and provide an alternate form of ID can travel, provided the guest has documentation from a government agency or police service attesting to the loss or theft.
Examples of some of the alternative forms of ID include the following:
Employee identity cards;
Public transit passes;
Baptismal certificates.

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was supposed to fly from Fort Mac to Kelowna. I contacted Westjet and was told, after escalating my concern several times, that no way, no how was I getting on that plane without ID. I ended up driving!

Ouch, that sucks... Could be tough, even with the police report. She somehow will have to show who she is.
Always keep two pieces of id separate if out of town. and photo copies available to someone who has access to them at home.
I hope it all works out, hope she gets on.
I always keep my passport and license separate when I fly out of town. Birth certificate and photo copies of each id, locked up at home with family having access to it if needed. Also always keep government certified work id, in my backpack.

I've brought copies of id/passport when traveling internationally. Might be a good idea to do this when traveling anywhere, I guess.
