How about an Audi? I really like how the new line of Audis look. It's subtle yet agressive, and it's pretty luxurious inside as well.

From Consumer Reports, maybe it will give you some ideas.

Man, too bad the E-Class starts at 62K, getting her that with the Bluetec diesel would be sweet.

I've always loved Audi but for some reason, I didn't even think of it. Thanks for suggesting it.

I'm just popping in here to say I'm happy that your mom isn't getting a dumb crossover like so many these days.

Only a bare bones 335xi would be 50-55. You can easily drop 60+ on one if you get a few options. Fantastic car though.

Yep. For something you spend so much time in, I don't see how some people only look at budgetary concerns when buying a car. Of course you should do it within a budget, but having a car you really enjoy will improve your quality of life. Everybody decorates their office, furnishes/decorates/decks out their house to enjoy it. You should do the same thing with a car, even though you know it's going to depreciate.

Back on topic, I wouldn't really use the internet to make this decision. Use it to find all the cars within the budget, then go out and drive them. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac...check them all out and decide which you like best. Especially since she said she liked the TL, and hated the G37. By all accounts for driving dynamics, I'd make a safe assumption that the G37 is a much better car.

They're sturdy cars, and significantly affordable if you get a used one. I got mine from Calgary BMW for $43k (negotiated down a bit), it is a 2007 335xi with the Premium package, and it only had 19,000 kms on it. It was originally priced in the high 50's because of all the bells and whistles.

I'd advise going through Calgary BMW though, as they have the pre-owned certified program that makes sure they are in good condition. Plus, you can get things like five-year tire warranties, windshield repair, a microfilm for the front, and other nice options.

I'm very, very satisfied with my purchase, and will likely be driving this vehicle for years to come.

Personally, I love the G37. She, on the other hand, doesn't like the way it drives and complains about the fuel economy. Oh well...

That's quite the stretch.

We're not talking about beaters here. Just inexpensive, reliable, simple cars.

I Disagree. A car you really enjoy can certainly make you more happy in your daily routine.

As much as people say material goods don't bring true happiness, a car you love to drive squashes that theory. Hands down.

I didn't really think I'd ever look into an American car when you want luxury, but based on those consumer reports (and Top Gear), I'd look at the Cadillac CTS. From looking around a little bit, it seems like you can get one at a pretty high spec for the 50-55k price range, and I think they're pretty sexy.

We live in Ontario, so that might be an issue.

I believe his profession is studentology. I like good cars as much as the next guy, but buying a 335 straight out of school is pretty much a sign of a) bad financial management or b) someone else is paying for it. Probably a mix of both would be my guess.

But hey, if you're going to use daddy money for a new car, a 335ix is a pretty good choice! I wouldn't turn it down, that's for sure. I'll take mine in stick please (and wagon, if it was available).
