I'm another one of those who love horseradish in my caesars. That said, last time I was at LoungeBurger, I tried their herb caesar, and it was pretty tasty. Next time I'm back I might try a different one off their caesar menu.

Yeah, that's always been on the wiki but there was another snopes like site that debunked this by finding cocktails with tomatoes and clams on it from decades before from old menus plus all the connections with bloody mary's in the US and the UK as well.

Doesn't matter, I still love them.

I usually enjoy a caesar wherever I am. The ones from BP are good. I don't mind if they substitute asparagus for celery, I'm not going to eat it. Though if they add olives, I'm all over that.

For making them at home, Sriacha sauce works a lot better than tabasco. And I'll also second that too much Worcestershire sauce definitely ruins it.

I'm very confused by the creation of Clammato juice. Tomato juice is bad enough, but why did somebody decide that ringing out a few clams into it would "improve" it? Who has excess clam juice anyway?

From that site and other things I've read about historical drinks and bar & restaurant history (food history is a hobby of mine), clams in tomato juice has been around for like a century. It was used as a hangover remedy or and I think was from the Southern US.

Personally, I love tomato juice and I love Clamato. The clams are awesome. It's probably my favorite drink after water and tea. All the sodium is really bad for you though. I actually don't think there's enough clam in commercial Clamato. Remember the U.S. ads that were saying it's 99.9% clam free? That was one of the biggest marketing failures of all time because it drew attention to the clams which the market research people found that people didn't like the presence of clams and if it's 99.9% free, why not just buy cheaper tomato juice?

Ever since I was in elementary school, I've been drinking those little cans of spicy Clamato. Maybe that's why I often prefer virgin Caesars.

I absolutely have to have Clamato or a Caesar or a Bloody Mary if I am on an airplane. British Airways was just tomato juice with a ton of Worcestershire but it wasn't too bad.

There was also a big court battle over Clamato in the early 90s.

Clamato has always been a very popular drink in Canada (I think there are stats regarding that in the court case) but it has always had trouble in the American market.

In the U.S. Clamato is marketed more to hispanic/latin american communities.

Tommy Burger on McLeod Trail has an interesting Caesar menu. You can get one made with pickle juice, which is surprisingly delicious.

I'm not huge into Caesars because I think they're too salty, but I always find it hilarious to order them "no groceries" when I do. I actually like the garnish but the drink order is sweet.

I like the Mexican Caesar at Earls.. It has Tequila in it.. and I perfer that over Vodka.. Anyone know the recipe for that one?

my mouth is watering right now..

i dont know why, i rarely drink caesars...i do like them though. My ive seen my brother polish off over a mickey and a whole bottle of clamatoe juice (plus other stuff) pregaming he likes them so much

however, i could not tell you where to get a good one specifically...

When I make mine I cut up a few slices of lemon and lime and muddle them in the glass. I really enjoy the bit of citrus flavour. Definitely not a drink to get drunk off of but it is a great one to start your night (or morning) on.

Not so much that it is marketed towards Hispanic communities, but more that is it simply popular in Hispanic communities because of the belief it is an aphrodisiac. The clam content is what drives whitey away.

Also, there is no such thing as a good Caesar. Tomato juice by itself is vile. But good on Motts for finding a way to make it even worse by adding mashed seafood.
