Uniformed hookers - yes, that could be a problem. I don't think paying Iraqis would help.

Candidates for the Amazonian Guard undergo extensive firearms and martial arts training at a special academy, must take an oath of chastity, and must be hand-picked by Gaddafi himself.

Libyan sources claimed that in June 1998, one of Gaddafi's female bodyguards was killed and seven other wounded when Islamic fundamentalists in Libya ambushed the Colonel's motorcade. It was claimed that the dead girl, Aisha, was Gaddafi's favourite and threw herself across Gaddafi's body to stop the bullets.[

"Canadian bombers pound Libyan ammo depot"

http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Ca...316/story.html

Quote:
Canadian fighter jets took out a Libyan ammunition depot during the first of two successful missions conducted over the past 24 hours.

Military officials confirmed Wednesday that the bombing occurred Tuesday night in the Misurata region in northern Libya.

"The mission involved four CF-18s in total," said Maj.-Gen. Tom Lawson, assistant chief of air staff.

"During such missions, Canadian fighters employ precision-guided munitions. This type of weapon . . . increases the accuracy and effect of a mission while decreasing the risk of collateral damage."

Canadian fighters are said to have deployed four of these laser guided, 500-pound bombs against the depot.

LOL at the fact that he has his fully uniformed bodyguards wearing a heavy amount of make-up in that top pic. Gaddafi's quite the character.

Saw a pretty crazy video of the rebels battling a tank in Benghazi on live leaks. Those guys are fearless, at one point I thought one guy was going to get run over.

I am having a friendly debate with my bleed red Liberal friend and I decided to throw this wee bit of turn-about-is-fair-play goodness at him.

"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation." - Senator Barack Obama, in an interview with the Boston Globe Dec. 20, 2007

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/...ateQA/ObamaQA/

Is Libya the 51st state most Americans think exist ?

I always thought that international treaties with NATO and UN resolutions allowed the president to intervene without immediate congressional authority.

I also think that with special forces operations or intelligence operations that the president can authorize those actions as long as he consults or informs congress within a certain time period after the action is taken.

But I'm not an expert.

Acting alone. I didn't know he was using that term with more specificity than common usage.

In this context I think a UN resolution combined with a consultation including both parties before the engagement is consistent with the above quote (both of which did happen).

Waiting to pass a resolution in the House with an opposing party that is intent on undermining him would needlessly endanger the lives of Lybians.

The Republicans could rename themselves, the anti-party. Anything Obama does they'll oppose. At first it's 'lets knock the crap out of Lybia' and after Obama gives the go ahead for a no fly zone, the cries are 'it's none of our business, we should have stayed out of it'. It's ridiculous, the selfishness of these politicians.

WikiLeaks cables, independent analysts and reporters have all identified supporters of Islamist causes among the opposition to Col Gaddafi's regime, particularly in the towns of Benghazi and Dernah.
...
In any future negotiations – should it come to dialogue or even victory – rebel spokesmen are likely to be politicians who were until recently senior figures in the regime itself.
The head of the opposition National Council, Mustafa Abdul Jalil was Col Gaddafi's justice minister until he defected at the start of the uprising.
The military chief, though, is Abdul Fattah Younis al-Obeidi, a former leader of Col Gaddafi's special forces who was his public security, or interior, minister until he went over to the rebels.
He has described Col Gaddafi as "not completely sane", and worked with the SAS during the now curtailed thaw in British-Libyan relations. But it is still ironic that the West is taking sides in a battle between the leader of a much hated regime and his former effective deputy.

Default I think the point is

Obama has clearly lost any illusion moral high ground he once had.

His foreign policy is like Bush lite. Still killing people without congressional approval but he says it with much less conviction and apologizes later. When he wanted to be elected he was speaking out so vehemently against the very things he is doing now.

So the question now is was he lying to get elected or so naive and inexperienced he had no idea on how the world really worked? Either way he comes off as a total loser.

How can Maher possibly be still defending Obama at this point? Is he asking Obama to give back his Nobel peace prize now?

Bill's first guest really ticked me off when he mentioned that the mounties were going to run the mission and made a joke of how pathetic that was.
