GWI is going to get severely punished politically for this as well as the Diamondbacks as Kendricks wife is on the board. GWI may get donations from outside the state but the local Repubs on all levels will not take kindly to this at all. A lot of prestige was on the line to maintain being a 4 major sport venue and this will not be taken lightly by all manner of politicians. Kendricks better not be asking anyone for anything for the next several years.
A local sportscaster already brought up this potentially being viewed as somewhat cannibalistic as one sports team potentially feeding off the death of another and the outcome was not good. Diamondbacks are not doing too well as it stands and they do not want to give fans any reason to not attend their games.
Funny thing is they are already. Who is going to have to make up the money lost when the revenues come up short on 41+ nights at Westgate. The economic impact of the Coyotes leaving will be catastrophic.
|
I suppose the GI, and I tend to agree with them somewhat, feels that the principle that taxpayers shouldn't be buying sports team for billionaires is important, I also think that the yotes will fail in Phoenix no matter what, therefore the city is throwing good money after bad and needs to just take the loss and move on.
After Husizer 'buys' the team the debt has to be paid for, so presumably tickets go up, plus paying for parking etc. It is a recipe for even less tickets sold to be frank.

Looks good on them. I'm talking about the politicians and the greed of some private companies trying to get something for nothing. I'm not talking about the people of Phoenix but it's about time governments stopped subsidizing these strident private enterprisers.
You know Goldwater used to be thought of as extreme right wing but he had nothing on these flim flam artists making up the new right society.

Seriously? That's the letter? Seriously?
Wow, with a three paragraph letter (from way back in 2005) I'm surprised (Shocked!) that the GWI was not impressed "to day" with the "Guaranty" that was provided. Shocked I say, shocked!

I've learned 2 things from being on Calgarypuck:
1. Iginla is a lock for the Hall of Fame, if CP'ers have any say on it.
2. You can always count on Resolute14 to trash Winnipeggers who hope to acquire an NHL team.

Hoping to acquire an NHL team is all well and good, but if you are going to behave like a petulant little child acting like they are entitled to their toy, don't be surprised when you aren't treated with much respect.

Goldwater shows it true colors once again, a group concerned with self promotion and political grandstanding ahead of the interests of the people they claim to represent. They're politicians, nothing more, the difference being that they aren't held accountable.

I don't understand how this is still going. Who in their right mind would invest in those bonds now? Might as well piss your money down the drain.

What I would pay to know what is going on at the NHL and the BOG. I just don't get it, why are they so dead set on keeping this team. Its getting "F"ing ######ed.

How? By burning taxpayers money in keeping a losing product? If Hulsizer wants a team so bad, buy it with his money and it would be staying in Phoenix.... kind of like how most owners do.

What does that have to do with anything? However, regardless of what team he plays for, Iginla is a first ballot hall of famer. I would even say that if he was a Canuck.

If it's this important to the city, why are they not purchasing the team themselves then? This whole deal seems slimy to me.

Who's picking a fight. Your Iginla comment especially on a Flames board, was ridiculous, and he is calling you out for it. Almost unanimously, anyone who knows anything about hockey, has stated publicly that Iginla is a HOF lock.
It would be almost as crazy as saying the Canucks won't make the Playoffs this year.

All I know is tickets are inevitably going to be expensive if they move back to Winnipeg. However, the Jets would have the support of the business community and fans. Most suites and centre ice tickets would be gobbled up by Winnipeg corporations.
It was recently estimated that a Winnipeg NHL team would make $102 million in revenue minus expenses. I would not be able to afford season tickets, but I certainly would get a few upper ring seats, and go to a handful of games.

Well I apologize if you took my comment the wrong way. Iggy is one of my favorite players, and if you check my posting history I make clear about it. I am sorry if my words were misinterpreted.

I might be $100 poorer by the end of the week. This was NOT the expected response by those involved.
I still think that they'll somehow, someway find a way to keep the team in Phoenix. Otherwise, the league may be owning the Thrashers next season.
|
Whereas I, in contrast, completely expected this response for the exact reason I mentioned in my previous post: Goldwater does not want one red cent of taxpayer money to be going to a private enterprise, as it violates Arizona law.
On the bright side, CalgaryPuck will appreciate your donation, I'm sure.

Yeah, all twenty-eight Coyotes fans who also happen to be Diamondbacks STHs are going to have a conniption. Somehow I don't think the Diamondbacks are worried about backlash from this. One less sports franchise competing for the disposable income of the people, they're laughing (not that the Coyotes were that big of a threat in recent years anyway).
And wow, Hulsizer... wow. Seriously, there are children who still have their baby teeth that can spell better than that.
