I think most people are complaining about the immediate effect today kevman, not the benefit for the rest of the summer.

And for the love of god people it is a sunday!!
80% of people probably didn't even lose an hour of sleep because it is Sunday and they could just sleep in.
I on the other hand did have to work and am tired as ####.

Yes, you are correct. I normally sleep until 9:00 on Sundays; today I slept in past 10:00.
Which means going back to my normal workday bedtime is going to be even tougher today, and harder to get to sleep tonight.

If I would've been working last night, I would have worked for seven hours, yet gotten paid for eight. Best night of the year for shift workers. Fall behind, is the worst.

Sleeping in for an extra hour is going to ruin your day tomorrow? I doubt it.
And if sleeping for an hour ws going to ruin your day you probably could have made arrangements to wake up at 930 or something. And once again, losing 30 minutes of sleep isn't going to ruin your day.
Maybe make you a little more tired but people are acting like this is the end of the world.
I had to wake up at 7am today for work and even though I'm not feeling 100%, I'm still fine. 7hrs vs 8hrs of sleep isn't enough to ruin my day. Not ideal, but not a disaster. I really could have used that hour of sleep but I would describe my day as ruined. And if I had slept in until 10am I definitely wouldn't have considered it a disaster considering I wake tomorrow at 7am again.

Who exactly is acting like it's the end of the world? People have asked why it is an issue, so a few of us have said why this affects us. We are having a discussion. Same as a weather thread or if we were discussing an increase in Transit fares.
Keep in mind as well different people have different sleep patterns; and some of us that are older have different patterns again. When I was 25 the time change didn't bother me either; but after age 35 it did.
Like somebody else said; I'd rather just move the clocks ahead 30 minutes once and be done with it.

One poster referred to it as the worst weekend of the year. There have been varying degrees of agreement.

Any place I've been, if we work nights going ahead, we get paid for 12 hours and work 11. If we work falling back, we work 13 hours, but get an hour of overtime.
If you're on days, you just gain or lose the hour on your own time.

My mom (nurse) used to split the difference - people would come in a half-hour early in the AM (or a half-hour "late") so the burden would be split between night and day shift. My dad (police) got paid for the extra hour if he worked it.

I feel like crap if I lose an hour of sleep. It certainly is kicking my butt today.

That we do DST, and the times of year when we do switch, is just about perfect right now.
I'd rather have the sun up from 9 pm until 10 pm in the summer rather than from 4:15 until 5:15 in the morning.
I'd rather have the sun up from 8:30 am until 9:30 am in the winter instead of 4:30pm until 5:30 pm.

I don't really care about the "should we have DST" debate but man, getting up at 6:30 (AKA 5:30) yesterday to go skiing sucked. May have had more to do with the drinking/flames game and going to bed at 2 (AKA 3) though.
