Default East is LEAST, West is BEST!

So got around to taking a good look at the standings and noticed some disparities between the divisions.
In the east there is really 4 solid teams, The Flyers, Bruins, Capitals and Penguins…and I'm a little concerned that we should be calling the Caps or the Penguins top caliber teams, yet…no offense to either GM.
The Caps would be no better than an 8th place club in the West(is best), and the Pens 5th. The bottom 4 teams in the East would all be on the outside looking in with only the Thrashers looking at a tie for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Isles, Sabres and Canadiens would all be out of the mix. The 8th place Coyotes (West is best), would be tied for 5th place in the east.
Further proof that the West(is best) comes from looking at the league stats. Of the top 10 Scorers 8 of the ten reside in the west, with only Phillys Zetterburg and Bostons Briere cracking the top 10.
Of the Goalies 7 of the top 10 reside in the Best.
As a matter of fact a quick scan of all the important stats shows similar results, Goals = 7 of 10, Assists = 9 of 10, Shots = 8 of 10, etc etc etc.
Whats the cause of such discrepancies? Better GMs, Better traders, More MSN time?

It’s a crap shoot but of one thing we can be sure…WEST is best.

Might want to look at games played for teams 4-8 in the West and then some of the East teams.

IE....we are 1 point back of teams 5-7 in the West and have 2, 3, and 3 games in hand on them. We are 2 points back of the 4th seed in the West and have 4 games in hand.

For Years it was the other way around with the East being greater than the West. It is good to see things even out a bit.

5 of the 8 Champions in the league have come from the East, including the last two.

Also... the East GMs smell better.

Cool. Here is more numbers.

East playoff teams:

306 points in 251 games = 1.219 PPG

West playoff teams:

307 points in 256 games = 1.199 PPG

That is because the Teams in the west are playing more teams against each other. That means "decent" teams in the west beat up on the super weak teams over there and pad the stats.

I didnt realize that the schedule was so conference heavy until this post made me look at my schedule. My team only plays the west 24 times out of 82 games. So that means I play the tough conference 58 times giving me lower overall point totals then a team playing the weaker teams 58 times.

That is my theory, and I am sticking to it!

You know the Sim is having a tough year when the best scoring Center in the league is "Olli Jokinen".

I would bet at the end of the day, a team in the East will hold the cup (once again).
