If you're still looking for the game I saw it at the EB in Deerfoot Meadows. They only had 3 copies left but that was on Tuesday.

This game is all kinds of awesome. I picked it up thanks to this thread and have been addicted ever since.
Currently on level 21 as a royal (also thanks to this thread). I've finished 1-1, 1-2, and 2-1 so far, and on 3-1 now.
I'm loving the graphics, the story and the difficulty. I've always liked hard games, feels so much more rewarding when you achieve something.

Just want to add further praise - FANTASTIC GAME!!
I love the difficulty and it's true - it's not frustrating hard it's "Oh god why was I so dumb" hard, hehe.

Just traded MW2 for this last night. Popped the game in and played about 30min. I'm impressed so far, I didn't want to get into it because I have other priorities for a couple weeks but I can't wait.

Thread ressssurrreectttioooooonnn!!!!
I'm not a console gamer at all but I've been going to a buddy's house just to play this because it's driving me crazy thinking about it. I've died like 50 times just on 1-1 alone and sucking terribly trying Thief, Soldier, Hunter, etc.
I'm going to take the advice in this thread and start with Royal now.

It is a really hard game, but soon you will be cruising through all of the first castle just to get some cash to upgrade. I did not finish the game, but should start it up again.
You shouldn't be getting killed that often either...it seriously stressed me out to die, so I would run away as often as I could to save myself.
You aren't trying to kill that giant dude at the other end of some long bridge thing, are you?
Maybe I should start this game up...once I am done about five other games I will consider it.

This thread lives on in soul form..
So I killed the first blob boss thing, but I had died previously in the level. Can I/should I go back in and retrace my steps to find my bloodstain? Would that entail having to fight the boss again? Or once you beat the bosses are they done?

I think the servers for this game are going to get pulled sometime this year (if they haven't been already) but the game is still my favorite PS3 game of all time without the multiplayer aspect.

When you beat bosses they are done. Get your bloodstain and your souls.
The trick to this game is while there are no saves and checkpoints and enemies respawn and you respawn at the start, certain world events are persistent once you trip them such as defeating a boss or opening a shortcut. In world 1-1 Bolarian Palace, make sure to open all the gates that will provide a shortcut for you to walk straight to the part of the level you want so you don't have to go through the hordes of enemies again.
Also remember the light/darkness of the world will determine changes in each world as well.

Was in the HMV downtown earlier today - they had a copy of the game for $30 (Greatest Hits collection). Almost picked it up... but then I'd actually own a game to play on the PS3 and please... who does that?

I believe they have committed to running them until March.
And I agree - it's a very interesting game so far. The vibe I get is very, very Ico/Shadow of the Colossus - same atmosphere, architecture, stuff like that.

I think what gets me is how deep the game is and it's totally unforgiving nature of having absolutely no saving whatsoever. Everything you do stays with you permanently and you cannot change your past actions which subtly change the story/world that you experience, even if it's something you do by accident. IE: kill the wrong person or open the wrong door too early or die in the wrong place and the storyline changes and you wouldn't even know it. It just keeps going and your life in that horrible place just keeps going.

I haven't owned a videogame console since 1999. I considered buying one just for Demon's Souls.

If the servers get pulled can you still play the game? I bought it (again) a few weeks ago during a Futureshop sale (buy 2 games for $30) but I may not get to it for a while.
