What makes this even more bizarre is the fact that she got up and stumbled out of the room like nothing happened.

Very intense. The lady with the bag's fault was that she did not have the physical means to make a difference, but she tried. If people were allowed to leave out that bag door, and any of them were large enough to squeeze that gun downward while he was turning around then they better do it. If anyone does something like that lady that is enough to distract him for someone to close the distance and try to disarm then they better do it.

Fleeing or stopping a situation like that has to be better than lining up for an execution. That guy showed proof on how poor aim can be as well, I remember an old statistic that the average person has a 17% chance of being hit by one bullet out of a ful clip from a handgun at close range by simply running away in a direction and changing your angle once after a couple steps (bascially ANY zigzag).

The gunman was a bumbling idiot as well, he couldn't explain anything, he didn't get any awareness of his cause, he didn' accomplish anything except ramble unclearly about taxes then shoot with terrible accuracy.

You kinda make me sick.

There were some faults to her actions as I explain in my last post, but how is deciding that you are not going to let your fellow members get lined up by a gunman and want to take action against it NOT heroic.

What she did wasn't stupid by itself, but it was very reckless considering the high risk and low probability it had of working.

However, being reckless when you have 3 kids at home, is pretty stupid.

Being a hero is the last thing that someone should ever try and do. Generally people with a gun don't line people up to execute them. Hostage situations generally end with no one getting hurt. That being said once someone starts attacking the guy with the guy all bets are off.

Look at the situation at the WCB building in Edmonton, if someone attacked him there would be a greater chance of bodies being wheeled out of the building.

I've read papers before about hostage situations and how you are NEVER supposed to increase stress levels, its about working with the person in control.

She is very very dumb... Frail little lady trys to hit giant 300lb man with gun. Seriously the cops should be explaining to her that she could have gotten them all killed had it been another gunman.

I don't think her hitting him with her purse changed the outcome of this one. I don't agree with her decision, and I'd say nobody on here seems to, but I know if I'd been standing in the sidelines, done nothing and people ended up dead I would always wish I'd done something...even just swung a bag at the lunatic.

Now of course everyone will look it up. The video is all over the internet. He blows his brains out with a .357 magnum at a live press conference. I'm not one to watch really disturbing stuff normally. It is not a fun video to watch but I've definitely seen worse. I get that sick feeling watching it but I just watched it last night (not for the 1st time) after seeing this thread and it is definitely not fun to watch but contains nothing to keep me up at night or scar me for life or anything. I think it helps that it was filmed in 1986 and is kind of grainy.

There is a fair amount of blood and they close up on him and you can sort of make out his brains coming out the top of his head though so be forewarned.

The most shocking part is he thinks it was funny. Told the sick f to lose my number a over a year ago. I have seen the Dwyer video, a little easier to take knowing the guy made his own choice. But watching a brutal murder, that is different. It took a bit to really clue in on what I was watching. I thought it was some weird Indy film clip or something. Then when I clued in, I was pissed, and shut it down. There are just some things not worth seeing, and that was one of them.

I watched it about 6 months ago as I got an email about it. Very disturbing video. I can't even imagine what was going through Sergei's mind at the first point of attack. Makes me cringe even thinking about it.
