Article - United Nations: It's Okay to Kill a Gay

Apologies if Fata, but just read this article which was posted in another forum.

		| Last week, the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly voted on a special resolution addressing extrajudicial, arbitrary and summary executions. The resolution affirms the duties of member countries to protect the right to life of all people with a special emphasis on a call to investigate killings based on discriminatory grounds. The resolution highlights particular groups historically subject to executions including street children, human rights defenders, members of ethnic, religious, and linguistic minority communities, and, for the past 10 years, the resolution has included sexual orientation as a basis on which some individuals are targeted for death.
The tiny West African nation of Benin (on behalf of the UN’s African Group) proposed an amendment to strike sexual minorities from the resolution. The amendment was adopted with 79 votes in favor, 70 against, 17 abstentions and 26 absent.

There's a full list of how the countries voted at the bottom of the article. It's definitely eye opening. I'll try to post a map below of the vote:
Green voted against the resolution, red for it. Others are either abstentions or absent.

South Africa voted for it? the same country who's population were subject to some of the worst discrimination seen in the last few decades? just like many of California's black population, with many seniors who lived through segregation, voting against gay marriage. i guess it's ok to discriminate as long as you're not the one being discriminated against

It's the default selection colour of a popular GIS software package, so I'm guessing that whoever authored it just had that polygon selected when they screen captured it.

My friend told me that when Black people were allowed to marry legally, 70ish percent of americans voted against it. Today only about 50 percent of americans are against gay marriage... Kind of puts things in prespective.

Its the UN, corrupt uselessness is its business and business is good.
I would also like to point out that everyone of the countries who voted against Canada getting a seat on the Security council also voted yes on this resolution.
