If this trade goes down as rumoured, the Raptors will have two 30-year-old players (Calderon and Evans), one 28yo (Barbosa), and everyone else 25 and younger. That's a crazy-young roster.

edit: oops, and Peja, obviously.

I like the trade. I am not a big fan of Jack because he is so inconsistent. He is a good player when he plays but just awful when he is off with his game. David Andersen and Marcus Banks doesn't get a lot of minutes in Toronto anyways so they might as well get rid of them and get something in return. Peja in the old days were awesome. I am not sure how he is right now as I haven't seen him play lately. Bayliss, I have no clue who he is so I just take whatever TSN was saying about him. I heard he is a young fast/quick guy. I guess we will see what happens.

Even if Peja only hits at 40% from beyond 3, he's a huge improvement over anything on this roster.

Bargiani is scoring points, but his rebounding is getting worse (if that was possible). 2 rebounds today.

yeah seems like bargnani is maturing into a one of a kind center alright (all scoring, no rebounding)......on the bright side he has diversified his offense a lot more and seems to be developing chemistry with barbosa (still a work in progress)

Wow, I love Reggie Evans!

Quote:
You've got to look at it like this," Evans, whose previous best was 21 rebounds for Seattle on Feb. 5, 2005 versus Charlotte, said of the crowd reaction. "You have so many people in this country that go out there 9-to-5 and work so hard to make an honest living, and just to buy Raptors tickets, they want to come here and see somebody work as hard as them in the real world.

"So at the end of the day, a lot of the time they can appreciate it more to see a guy go out there and bust their butt."

Reggie's got it. What a change from last year after he lost a ton of weight. This year the NBA's got some nice storyline's by way of rebounders. If he can keep this up the Raps have a gem when it comes to his trade value at the deadline. I have faith in Colangelo that he'll work things out at the deadline for the future of the team, so it's nice to see at the very least, individual players boosting their trade value. Hopefully they deal Bargnani while his value is high.

WHO needs Andrea rebounding when Evans is grabbing all of them? The guy is a machine. This is a good combo Andrea is driving the ball and also kicking it out and taking his own perimeter shot as well. Stick Amir and Evans underneath for rebounds.

in the long term andrea needs to rebound, otherwise the raps should cut him loose while his value is still fairly high and his deficits are hidden by evans

I haven't watch a Raptors game yet this year, but I couldn't help but chime in that I've always given Bargs the Curry excuse - he takes the other guy out of the play.

Is he doing that well this year, holding down the opposing center on the offensive glass?

I'd say yes, 90% of the time, but every now and then he looses his focus and lets his guy through. There are times when he boxes his guy out about ten feet from the basket but still leaves Evans or Johnson outnumbered in close; in those situations, it doesn't matter if he takes his man out, he'd be more effective actually going for the rebound himself.

Really, it needs to be all about positioning and reading the rims for him. I suspect his vertical is below average for his height (he's lost almost every tip-off this year, and even his dunks come from his lateral quickness, not his ability to get super-high). He actually rebounds very well against less agile power-forwards where he's got a decided size advantage. For example, first time they played Philly, Brand was having a great game against Evans, but Bargnani was able to effectively limit his offense and keep him off the offensive glass, which allowed Reggie to just out-hustle Philly's mediocre centers. So it'll be an ongoing challenge for Triano to figure out the right matchups.

With Evans hurt, should Davis get a look or is he not ready yet?

Should add, I do like Amir though, he has played well this season.

Erie plays today, and then doesn't play again until Friday, so I don't see a reason to keep Davis down unless he looks out of shape, and he certainly didn't in the first game. So I think he'll be in Toronto for the game against Washington on Wednesday.
I think he's going to do great. He understands defensive positioning better than anyone on the existing Raptors lineup. In 18 minutes in his first game, he was a +22, and though he had only 10 points and 5 rebounds, he had a massive effect on that game.

Amir is sooo frustrating. I love his potential, but these games where he picks up two soft fouls in his first four minutes make him essentially useless. It starts with the Raps giving up too much perimeter penetration and then he ends up outnumbered and swatting at guys. I think that once Davis gets adjusted to playing in the NBA, the two of them will make a great pairing.

The Raptors actually look far better against Atlanta today than they did through most of the Bosh era. I'm not too worried about how this team will perform without Evans.

Heh, I thought they were looking good too and then the collapse happens.

Atlanta is playing them on the perimeter and they simply aren't getting the type of penetration they need. Bargs should be standing under the basket waiting for passes - he towers over any of Atl's defenders.

But some of the shot selection... Barbossa... so frustrating at times. Evans is definitely the guy that stirs the drink for us.
