Default My mother is stranded at sea I think...

Bit of a "shake your world" moment when i got a call from my brother about 20 minutes ago saying there had been a fire aboard. We arent 100% sure this is her boat but she was scheduled to leave Long Beach on Sunday as this boat did and i cant imagine there were multiple cruises leaving the same day from the same spot to the same destinations, but i may be wrong. I cant get a call through to her cell phone, but that doesnt surprise me being where they are.

But it appears all will be well albeit a bit of an inconveniance for the passengers.

She'll be fine, Tranny. This isn't the Mayflower, it's a state of the art modern cruiser. They'll be off the boat and back home in no time.

Plus they will get compensated heavily for the mishap. Cruise lines are usually very good for offering incentives for passengers who had to go through a circumstance like this so they can retain them as customers

yeah i am not worried that much at all...it was a just a bit of a jolt to get such news.

Sounds like they should be off the ship sometime later today.

Shes probably kicking back on the poop deck sipping Margueritas and playing shuffleboard.

All in all, there are worse places/ways to be stranded than on board a fully stocked cruise ship.

Woah, that is kinda crazy. Heard about it on the news last night. Glad to hear it's only amounting to a minor inconvenience and nothing life-threatening.

seems like one of those times where it would have been nice if your brother could have held off calling you until all the details were availible; however, in the real world you'd likely be annoyed with him for not calling sooner....

hopefully she'll have a good story to tell.

The bad news, we have an engine fire, the good news, due to the inconvienience the bar is now offering free drinks for the next hour.

We were on a cruise ship (honey moon) that had a massive outbreak of the norovirus. My wife got sick and was quarantined to her room. I'll spare you the details, but there were a lot of problems. They offered us $500 cash back and a $250 voucher. My wife wrote them a letter and they gave us 2/3 of the cruise cost back.

I was worried when I opened the thread, but I am relieved to know that things took a turn for the better.

Hope everything goes well for her. Best wishes transplant99.

The ship is being towed to back to Ensenada. The cruise fare is being refunded and each passenger will be given a voucher for another cruise in the same amount. All transportation costs from Ensenada are also being taken care of by Carnival. The tugs should be there or arriving soon and they should get to Ensenada tomorrow night and be bussed to San Diego.

The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan is in the area and will be choppering over supplies because the ship is running on auxiliary power. No kitchens have power but they did manage to get the toilets up and running last night. This would also mean the bar's POS systems aren't working so the staff are probably really taking care of the passengers. Unfortunately, no ice or blenders for your moms margaritas.

Really? TBQH, I would almost hope for something like this to happen to me.

Adventure + refund + free cruise = Score!

That's if it happened to me. I wouldn't want it to happen to anyone's mom. And assuming everyone gets through it okay.

I thought the exact same thing after reading Barnes' post. Choppers buzzing around, some kind of weird aura on the boat where you're all ok, but unsure. Go start hitting on the ladies. "Hey, baby... Ever been stranded at sea before?"

The warm beer would definitely suck though.
