Interesting. I bet the flexibility of rubber relative to concrete would mean they would need less maintenance. Also, I wonder if the risk of getting scraped if you fall on them is a bit less.

I think you'd get banged up about the same. It's slightly better on the feet, but not too much I don't think.
They had a cutaway piece of it sitting on the grass one afternoon as they were fitting pieces together further down the line and I gave it a kick thinking it looked so soft and fluffy... bad move.
Along Charleswood they doubled the size of the sidewalk, and the main draw of it is how much better it looks then the normal concrete and the fact they are using old rubber tires as the material.

Don't know what the City's plan for it is, but it feels more comfortable to walk on then regular concrete and it's much prettier on the eyes. They have a neat little brick pattern to them. Classy stuff.

I'd guess that they aren't too rubbery when frozen solid, so shovelling probably isn't that different than on concrete. If they're the same as the rubber sidewalks here, they aren't spongy at all, they're pretty hard.

I saw a news story about it. There are 3 test areas on Calgary right now.
Apparently the rubber is recycled from tires, doesn't freeze over as easy, lasts longer and is cheeper than typical concrete.
Sounds like a perfect sidewalk

They're still quite hard of course, but in terms of impact you feel on your feet when jogging let's say, you'll notice a difference compared to concrete.
