Sushi Places
Hey Guys
I just moved here from Toronto, is there any all you can eat sushi places you would recommend? They are soo hard to find in Calgary. The ones I find are over priced or have horrible reviews.
Thanks!

There's a few previous threads about this if you search. Lots of good info in those.
I've eaten at over a dozen different sushi restaurants in Calgary, and by far the best (IMO) is Globefish. They have two locations, one in Kensington and one in Marda Loop. Judging from the autographed photos on the wall, lots of Flames players like Globefish too.

I'm not a fan of globefish. It was initially really good but when it moved locations (the north one) the quality went way downhill imo and the prices remained high. Check it out for yourself, but I am not a fan.
For nigiri sushi, I would recommend Wa's which is on center st and 17th ave N.
For rolls, I would recommend Misato, which is just off of...17th ave south and sarcee area I believe.
I don't think any all you can eat is a good deal, you will usually spend about the same amount of money at a non all you can eat and get far superior sushi. I used to be all about the all you can eats, but I was won over when I found what I just said previously to be consistently true.

A lot of people hate Kinjos (on mac tr just south of chinook) but the last two times I've been there - September and last night - have been great. I think he's listened to feedback and is keeping an eye on quality. The actual moving sushi boat is fun too

Not a huge fan of Globefish, Towa seems a little better most of the time though the quality has gone down a bit as of late. Sushi bar Zipang is okay but a little pricey. Sushi Kai, Shibuya Izakaya and Sushi Hibiki are good most of the time too.

Despite the other comments here, I personally feel that Globefish is the best in the city. In my experiences anyway.

Personally, I'd stay away from any all you can eat Sushi places.

Momo-yama on Richmond road is good, always busy and prices are fair.

It is often a debate between Globefish and Misato. But those that love Globefish have never had Misato. Those that love Misato prefer it over Globefish.

The problem here is the pricing.
It's hard to justify paying $30 for lower grade versions of what I get for $10 in Vancouver.
Are any of these places good and cheep?

Zipang in Bridgeland is, IMO, the best one in Calgary.

Sushi Boat in Crowfoot is always really, really good. The Seared Salmon and Unagi Roll are my favorites, love it there.

Sushi in Calgary is much, much better than in Toronto. No contest.
My faves- all inner city: El's Japanese Fusion, O Shima, Midori, Sushi Motto (though they're new and trying to find their groove), Tenshi, Sushi Club, Globefish, Blowfish, Sukiyaki House, Towa, Zipang, Wa's, and my single fave these days is the TINY (one table!) Sushi and Co. in the downtown west end.
You won't find at any of these the sort of crap you used to buy in Toronto so don't expect the giant meatball of glued-together rice you used to get at Sushi Sky, Natural Sushi, or any of the monstrosities on College or Queen or Bloor Streets. You may also miss cold, gelatinous unagi and smelly off tuna with bones in it.

Yamato has all you can eat on weeknights...though I've never done it. But Yamato I've enjoyed in general. Their sashimi is HUGE. Massive! And they have a really good lobster sushi combo.
Yamato's located off Shaganappi and Northland, in the strip mall across from Winston Churchill High School (same strip mall as the Mac's and Petro).

El's japnese fusion, Misato, and Towa are the only ones I will recommend. I hate Globefish for overpriced average sushi.

Sushi Bar Zipang, Els Japanese Fusion and Globefish for me. I find my bills comparable at all three, so maybe I am missing something in regards to Globefish being more expensive?

I also find El's just as expensive as Globefish.
