Interestingly....talked with my mother earlier this afternoon, and she was at a big family deal on Thanksgiving Sunday. All adults and the subject came up...
She figured that of the 15 there, 6 Higgins, 5 McIver and 4 Nenshi. real split not unlike the polls.
She is all about the airport tunnel thing ( im still not clear in the ins and outs) and said thats why she is voting the way she is.

I told my secretary to leave early today and go vote. My exact words were, "I don't care if you decide to vote Oscar Fech, just make sure you vote."

The great election of 10,000 BC
TROG vs. DROG
In the end Trog squeked it out by offering mammoth pelts to every seventh voter. Really it was the basis for our laws nowadays which do not allow rewards/kickbacks for voting a certain way.

A part of me thinks Nenshi and Higgins will split the outsider vote with Mcivor winning.

Thanks guys, for the Ward 8 discussion. I really felt out of the loop this year for some reason. I ended up going with Pashak and Nenshi for alderman and mayor.

CTV has something from 8-9. Global @ 10-11. Shaw has coverage from 8-12. I'll bet shaw probably gets the most updates.

We have a meltdown every time Sarich fumbles the puck. I wouldn't read that much into CP enthusiasm.

I have voted for Nenshi and convinced at least a half a dozen people to do the same. I think he is best for our city. However, elections are based on money and name recognition, so it won't be an easy fight. If he loses to Ric McIver I can take that and be reasonably content. Ric isn't incompetent, he just has differing viewpoints from me on a few issues.
If he loses to Higgins, I will lose it. Someone with no real platform and no apparent ability to run a campaign. Someone who has hid from 3-candidate debates, stumbled when she was in the debates she was in and practically flipped out when confronted with hard questions on City TV.
Just to put this in perspective, I was a Barb Higgins supporter the day she declared she was running.

+1 for Nenshi.
The guy giving me my ballot was flabbergasted that I didn't want to vote for a school trustee. "You don't want to guess?"
Why the hell would I want to guess?

did you get your roomies out to vote?
CBC radio's clip on the election has a quote from Nenshi saying that he's predicting a margin that could be as close as 200 votes. No comment from Higgins.

I just submitted a blank ballot for school trustee. I didn't want to hold up the line by trying to explain that I was uninformed and don't care who wins and thus didn't want to affect the vote for the people with a vested interest in the race.

I totally agree.
Normally I have not cared about the public trustee vote, but since I now have kids I decided I would look into the candidates. It took me 30 minutes last night for the wife and I to go through some stuff online and figure out if any of them were nuts or not.
Just randomly casting a vote is really a waste of time.

I just saw Zak on 17th Ave and wished him luck. It's hard to beat an incumbent, but I agree that if he doesn't win today, he'll make a good run next time.

+1 for Nenshi. Wasn't as firmly planted on the bandwagon as some around here. Had my moment of doubt about voting for him this morning seeing all the sidewalk chalk downtown; for some reason that didn't sit well with me. Then I remembered that the alternative might be Higgins as mayor and did what I had to do.
