So far so good. Going to play with it more when I get home but in the meantime are there any default setting I need to change to that are a "must"

Got a password set but other than that anything else?
Isn't really that much TBQH. You could turn off the "sent from my iPhone" if you don't like it in your email.

Turn down the brightness to save your backlight.

Phone your friends and brag! Try out FaceTime. Add your contacts. Download games! Have fun

Talk about long overdue - Apple is adding a whole bushel of new ringtones to the next software update (among other updates I'm sure)

More tones is nice for text messaging, but are they going to allow fully custom sounds? Plenty of people jailbreak for precisely that reason.

The one thing I really hate is not being able to specify if you want it to just vibrate, vibrate+ring or just ring for texts or phone calls. I would like to have it vibrate+ring for phone calls but only vibrate for texts.

Don't worry, Apple will market this as their big innovation for iPhone 5!

trying to get my shaw e-mail account set up and having some stress. I follow the the following instructions:
1. Create new mail account
2. Select POP (not IMAP) type of an account
3. Enter Name (user name of your email account ie. for user@shaw.ca would be user)
4. Enter Address: this is your email address ie. user@shaw.ca
5. Enter Description: whatever you want to display in your listing of Mail accounts
6. Incoming Mail Server:
- Host Name: pop.shaw.ca
- User Name: user (or whatever following instructions in #3 above)
- Password: the password you use to check email from your mail account with shaw.ca
7. Outgoing Mail Server:
- SMPT: smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com
- This entry will set it as the Primary Server; click on this entry to complete rest of the details
- User Name: blank – optional (do not attempt to enter your shaw.ca or Rogers account name here)
- Password: blank – optional (do not enter anything here either)
- Use SSL: set to OFF
- Authentication: leave at default Password
- Server Port: set to 25

My question is- does it matter if i use 3G or WIFI. will the above work for both?

You need to be on a Shaw network (so Wifi) for your shaw email to work on your phone.

Edit: Never mind...

(I thought the latest beta added this feature, but I was wrong.)

That should work. Incoming always works on Shaw regardless of where you are, just not outgoing. Using the Rogers SMTP you should be fine.

Yeah, Telus and Shaw block external SMTP traffic on their connections. IMAP and POP should be fine, you just need a third-party SMTP host (like the Rogers one).

...or you could use an email service that provides SSL access, which uses a different port altogether (ie MobileMe).

Yeah, I was kind of shocked by that too. They must be placeholders or something.

I can send e-mails now using 3G. I will check at home to see if I can send using WIFI.

The battery does suck on the iphone but that could largely due to me playing with it alot. Just wondering if the battery life is an issue for the iphone

I find it lasts one-three days, depending on use. The big losses come from games and if you have your screen at 100% brightness.

I'd say it's no worse and no better than my old pearl but I do a better job of keeping it charged because I rely on it more.

The nice thing is that even when your not home you can generally charge it easily because everybody has docks and the appropriate cables.
