Default Question: Gyms in Calgary

Does anyone know of any gym that is decent and you don't have to sign a contract for?
Thanks,

What part of the city?

Any true Gym wants a contract as far as I know but some other places are quite good.
Cardel place in the country hills area has a decent gym for about $50.00 a month.

I would imagine other similar sportsplexs are about the same.

As far as the best "gym" World Heath in edgemont is amazing, huge amount of equipment, lots of courts, trainers, cyro.juice bar...etc.

Talisman centre. Beautiful facilty, and the lululemon wearing, grunting affliction t-shirt sporting, "not now chief I'm in the zone" doosh ratio is very low.

They are in the middle of renos right now, but it is still a very useable facility. When it is done, it will be back to being the best all round facility in town.

YMCA, Talisman Centre, Cardel Place, NSD do not require contracts. I'm sure there's more.

I'm actually looking for something smaller, don't really care where it is just as long as it's not on the outskirts of the city somewhere. And somewhere with a small amount of those affliction wearing idiots would be nice.

Bumping this thread to ask about gyms in SE Calgary/ I recently moved to Copperfield and no longer feel like trucking halfway across the city to go to the gym.

Can anybody recommend a good gym within a 5-10 minutes radius of Copperfield?

I live in New Brighton and in the area there is:

- Good Life in Mac Towne - ok gym, parking around the gym has become scarce since Brewster's opened up - the location in Canyon Meadows is awesome

- Gold's Gym off of 130th (behind Home Depot) - never been in there - no real insight to offer

- YMCA in Shawnessy - decent facility but more than 10 minutes away

i think there is a couple of those "shapes" places in both copperfield and douglasdale

Does the Good Life pass work cross-facility? I assume it would but you never know.

Athletic Innovations is great, if all you're after is weights and treadmills. They have classes, but I think they cast extra. Cheap as borst as well......I buy 10x passes for around $100.

I'm a member of Golds off of 13th. I enjoy going there except for the T.V. problems on some of the cardio equipment. tons of weight equipment, but a little more limited on the more popular equipment like the fly deck that they only have two of, and the preacher curl machine that they only have one of.

The pool and the hot tub are up and down all the time, but I don't use them anyways. Cause I don't want to swim through someones bodily fluids.

They have tonnes of classes, a pretty good juice/snack bar.

But they play the worst technofunky crap music, thank god for my Ipod.

There's a high percentage of hot chicks there which is nice as well.

I went to Goodlife in Canyon Meadows. I paid $41.99 a month and there is tons of equipments and lots of hotties. And it's never too packed, only a few muscleheads too.

I thought the Canyon Meadows Goodlife was kind of lousy. They had some really terrible squat racks and all they had was hex plates.

Didn't the hotties make up for it?

This won't do. How am I supposed to do curls in the squat rack now?

I'm going to scope out MK Town Goodlife and Gold's today after work.

There weren't many but it was at a pretty quiet time of the day that I was there.

God I currently work out at the Crowfoot YMCA and there's ZERO hotties in the morning. Nothing at all. It's so very sad.

Silver springs has a nice smaller gym... northwest fitness, otherwise Goodlife is pretty good...and most importantly, plenty of scenery...

Yeah, I used to go NW Fitness. Good place with a very smart collection of equipment.
