Yeah you're right, its 3 years since M2M came out,but according to wikipedia, they started recording in 2008. Still it's not like it was rushed, but it kinda feels that way to me.

Just listened to the album once all the way through and I like it. I'm more of a luke warm fan of the band, but this album really works for me. I like the fact that it's an actual album and not just a collection of ringtones, which is probably going to come as a disappointment to some. It's something that you really have to listen to from beginning to end in order to appreciate it. That being said, there are some elements of it that don't really work (that accoustic piece at the end in particular) but it's nice to see that they avoided the generic cookie cutter crap that most "artists" are churning out these days.

Try living in Calgary. Through their entire career, they have yet to play one single show here.

Went to the release show, or whatever it was, last night in Times Sq. Pretty awesome show, especially since the venue is for less than 2000 people. I was probably 30ft from the stage and had enough room to not worry about spilling my drink, which is pretty amazing considering we're talking about a multi-platinum band. They played a few new songs but certainly didn't abandon the old stuff. The energy seems to be there and the time away from the stage hasn't left behind much rust.

BTW, from what I've heard from people in the industry Canadian dates are doubtful. I'd say Vegas is the best shot for people in Western Canada.

That would suck.

I've seen three times in Vancouver and three times down in the States, including an Ozzfest spot at the Gorge in 2002ish?? The Gorge is amazing.

OMG I can't believe how far this once so promising band has fallen. A Thousand Suns is 100% pure garbage. Holy sh@t that was a horrible listening experience. I don't think I'm even going to give it a second listen as I could barely stomach it the first time around.

Haha, why did I think that for once in your life, you might have had something positive to say about anything?? You're funny.

Oh, I know. I saw he replied to this thread, and for a half second, I thought, "He might say something positive".....but sure enough......uber negative comment. Hey, he's entitled to his opinion, I was just commenting on how predictable he is.

I've given it a few more spins, and I don't think it's horrible. There are a few tracks I like. Burning in the Skies is good and I really like Waiting for the End and the beat to Wretches and Kings has been stuck in my head all day. I think it was more of a shock than anything when I listened to it for the first time. I still wish there were more actual songs, but once I got over the fact that it's not old Linkin Park, it's actually a solid, though not great, album. That's just my opinion though.

Sorry man. I'm not going to lie and say I like an album as preposterously bad as A Thousand Suns just to be 'positive'. I used to really like the band and I even gave M2M more listens than it deserved to give them the benefit of the doubt. However I'm done with them now as they have lost their way trying to be something they are not.

Ha, I always love when people drop this line about bands. Yes, you are obviously quite familiar with exactly what it is that these guys are, and exatly what music they want to produce. I'm sure they all really wanted to create a completely different album that reflected who they really are but of course they decided to completely fake it instead and go through the process of recording music they hate, followed by being forced to play that music they hate (and only did to pretend to be something they are not) for years on end. That sounds plausible.

ORRRR, maybe you have no idea what they actually are.

I don't expect everyone to like everything, but the whole "trying to be something they're not" line is garbage.

Perhaps a bit off topic but a podcast I listen to is called the Nerdist and they just interviewed Mike Shinoda. He seemed like a really cool, smart guy. They also interviewed Reznor and he came across as pretty cool as well. Quite informal interviews and Hardwick, the podcast guy, tends to go on a bit about stand up as that is what he does but some good interviews. Not trying to sell it but just letting you know. Has also interviewed actresses, Adam Savage, Craig Ferguson. Anyways...

Okay I will rephrase it for you. They are trying to branch out into a different artistical direction that they just aren't suited. Like I said I'm willing to give any decent band a mulligan for trying something different but that was M2M.

If you like the album I'm happy for you and happy that the band managed to at least satisfy some of their fans making music that makes them happy but I and many others don't like it as it's simply not a good album IMO. It's one thing to go in this direction and pull it off but they didn't.

Not a fan of them at all, but they were the best performers of the night at the MTV Music Awards the other night - by a mile. What is wrong with kids taste's in music these days?

Giving the album my first listen right now. Seems not bad to me at all. Not sure how some can rank it as 'preposterously bad'. Seems a tad over dramatic, no?

I don't mean to be too harsh but this is a ridiculous comment. Each generation thinks the next generation and the previous generation has awful taste in music and the music they listen to is the only good music.
