Ifs 13 floors is a little much for a NY centre?
I was just wondering why the EauClaire YMCA is at least 5 or 6 floors. I mean really a pool, weight room, track, squash courts. After all it is only about 5 times wider than the NY centre might even be the same square footage. Perhaps we should look this up!!
Seems like you are reaching there Calgaryborn

By the way have you wondered what kind of Muslim community center needs 13 stories? We know the top 2 will be a Mosque.
|
1. I don't make a habit of adding sigs to my posts but that first sentence has me seriously reconsidering.
2. How many times must the point be raised that it a prayer space, not a mosque, and, unless I am wildly mistaken, it is a multi-faith prayer space. I acknowledge no vast knowledge of this specific issue but I thought I read that. Either way, there is a difference between a mosque and a prayer space.

Maybe I am.
As I already said a school makes more sense to me because of location(business area). It would also sell better in the non-Muslim community if it was called a community center rather than a school. Also, fundraising in the Muslim community for a school probably would get a lot further than fundraising for rec space.

You are mistaken. The prayer space for the Christians/Jews will be separate from the Mosque.

OK, so the church and synagogue will be separate from the mosque, then. I'll concede that due to lack of knowledge of this issue.

The McBurney YMCA in Manhattan (which Raif's group attempted to purchase in 1999) looks about 13 stories high (just viewed it via Google Streetview).
Sufi Muslims have a rich artistic and musical history. From what I've read the facility will also have performance/gallery space, an amphitheater and a culinary school.
Masjid al-Farah, the current facility is too small to meet the group's needs.
Expansion plans have been in the works for years, even predating 9/11.

I think the colour they paint it is offensive.

Actually Calgaryborn, after thinking about this Gremlins thing more, I think I see now why they want a swimming pool in the center! They're all going to jump in together at the same time and.... the horror...
I guess we'll soon know if our society has learned the important policy lessons articulated in 1980s movies. I for one am going to watch Red Dawn again tonight to make sure my friends and I know how to defend ourselves when the day comes.

Just think of the Gremlins. The only difference is that it isn't water that turns them into killers; It is an insult. In fact I think everyone on CP should rent Gremlins this weekend so we all understand what we are all up against.

We were notified at work today that Fred Phelps' brood is planning on burning some Korans and American Flags tomorrow across the street from the mosque here in Wichita.
Might be an interesting day.

They both have a (Constitutional) right to do it.

Perhaps you need to study more. There is a great book out that tells a story about a guy who rose from the dead and his dad creating the universe in six days and dont get me started on all of the contradictions.
It is fiction but it is a real page turner. Word of caution though if you dont believe it is real you are doomed to internal punishment. They also have a book club that gathers every Sunday. But be careful this group keeps attendance.
I am afraid to open your links though as it could be a trick and it may be like when the Nazis opened the artifact in Raiders of the Ark.
So I give up what does rhyme with Westerners?

Umm..Seabass....you hypothesis (not a direct quote) "Without religion (and really it was only Christianity) humans would have been exploring space 200 year prior to today"
Not the goal post moving part of my point as they were advancing well, the people under christianity were not.
China was the most advance civilization on Earth...for time. Your best bet was them. China imploded long before the West and Japan colonized parts of it.
SO who is left? Atlantis?
I gave you some suggestions to study up. Honestly, I hope you use them and learn.

Each group have a Constitutional Right to do it.
Each refuse to stop because they simply are too stupid to realize they are being insensitive for no reason.
Each will supposedly piss off millions.
NAh....nothing alike.

In Canada, gay's have the constitutional right to get married. However, it does piss off idiots. So it's not right. They shouldn't do it.

The only angry idiots are some of the gays and those that support them. They're the ones who have resorted to violence.
I don't like seeing my government invent rights but, my response has been civil. I exercise my right to free speech and will exercise my rights at the ballot box.
