i think people here have become a lot more conflictual over the past 6-8 months. I think it has to do with the fanbase being split on the general and immediate direction of the team since the phaneuf trade (maybe even before that).
The Pro-Anti sutter debate is red hot since then and every thread one way or the other has a way of turning into another tug-o-war about this.

People are just mean.
I'm a fan and I HATE the direction the team has gone in the last 6-8 months. I'm anti-Sutter now but it doesn't mean a person who thinks Sutter is still God is wrong. We just have to share opinions.
The art of the debate is now totally been lost on this forum.
Person A makes a valid point but that may be unpopular and then Person B in a millisecond calls Person A a ****head. And it spirals down from there.
Let's get back to intelligent point-by-point debating. We could learn alot from each other.

Your response goes right back to the comments made by other "noobs" you fail to make this a welcome place for some. But you enjoy your little clique as it seems important to you .

Relax dude, it was a joke.

This entire site is basically nothing but reality TV in text form. At it's heart it's only related to the Calgary Flames in the loosest sense. The vast majority of the intrigue here is the direct result of the cast of characters who appear, behave in stereotypical ways, and often interact with one another with hysterical results. Eventually they fade away, but are replaced by others who perform the same function.
All based in text.
If it weren't for you people, I'd probably sit on Snopes "What's New" page hitting F5 all day. Far better to watch the show here for the entertainment value.
The most amusing part is probably the narcissistic self obsession CP as a whole goes through on a regular basis. Like this thread. Which will hit 300 posts pretty quickly, even though it's not really talking about anything that doesn't go on with any group exposed to "new" people.
We're in the "think tank" people. Get used to it. In 2004 my opening post was about the potential return of Theo Fleury, and how he deserved at least a chance. Took a pretty good stomping. Deserved it. Turns out I was eventually right (or wrong) but deserved it never the less. I was new, and committed the infraction of posting without doing any prior reading. You wouldn't walk into a symposium on say... economics... and start screaming at the top of your lungs about the exchange rate without expecting to get weird looks and a visit from security.
Before you get stupid on CP you better have some sense of the culture. Or you are going to take comments at face value, and not know Reggie is just winding you up, or that Fotze is a lunatic.
At the end of the day, it's vaguely hilarious to think about the degree of conflict on this site, and then realize almost everyone here has something in common. They love hockey. And most love the Flames.
So if you're new, or feel you've been mistreated:
1) Do some background reading, and figure out why you're being harshed on.
2) Get a thicker skin, because occasionally posters feel like being A-holes.
3) Post what you really believe, but be ready to rationally defend it.
4) Remember we all have something in common.

No your first response wasn't and you know it
You did exactly what some posters were saying.
If you cant see the comedy genius in a "noob" coming into a page about dumb posts and creating a post that was in the wrong place/not funny/out of context, then you sir missed the fact that the joke not being funny and annoying was indeed the joke.
I guess I am too highbrow for this crowd

No. You'll need to call it something that has a word with at least 8 syllables in it. Otherwise, it won't be highbrow enough for you two.

It gets significantly tougher when the team begins to struggle. Sure there were some off moments from 2005-2009, but for the most part 2004 ensured good times for all. Once the team fell out of playoff contention it brought out a lot of different characters. There have always been armchair GM's, but they're way more annoying when the team is losing. The same goes for the chicken littles, eternal optimists and grammar nazis.

Strange that this is being discussed now. From the Phaneuf trade until around the end of June, this place was like a ###### contest. Last few weeks it seems sorta back to normal.

You don't need the apostrophe for chicken littles.

I blame the 'thanks' button. I think the 1 liners, slamming posts, drive bys and bating got worse after the thanks button was introduced. People in general are thanks whores.
The most thanked posts aren't well thought out, well researched, and well argued posts. They are the awsome burns when people say something stupid. Now one awsome burn is funny when everythread turns into this 1 liner contest it really degrades discussion. The Thanks button rewards this behaviour.
Getting rid of the thanks button would help.
