Default Questions about Winter Hockey League (mainly the Allcal)

Lots of rec hockey players in here, so I'm wondering if someone can help me out.

I have an opportunity to register my team in a few different divisions of the Allcal, but having never played in it I was wondering if I can get some insight here.

What is the "C" division comparable to?

I've played in ASHL Div 1-3, as well as NCHL Div C and D. Is it close to any of those?

Is the Allcal a chippy league? We're a bunch of midgets with almost no penalty totals, so I'm not interested in a "fight league".

Is there any goofy rules I need to know about?

Thanks in advance!

I play in Allcal C, and wouldn't say its chippy - with one or two exceptions. I would guess that our team has been involved with only one or two fights per year (where someone got an actual fighting major).

There are a few teams that are idiots, but I suppose that is to be expected in any league. Allcal does a seeding round that is supposed to move top teams up and bottom teams down. This seems to work, as we don't play any teams way above or way below our capabilities.

Ice times are on the late side (lots of 10pm to 10:30pm ice) and I question how well the guy who runs the league is at actually running a league - a few seasons back there were a few scheduling issues for us (and refs). If I had my choice, our team would be in another league (but this might be a grass is green sitatuation - I want to play in an over 35 league with 8pm ice time).

Anyway, I have never played in ASHL or NCHL - but did play Heritage Div B and SASM Div 3 and Allcal Div C is way better than SASM Div 3 and not as good as Heritage Div B.

Rules are pretty straight forward - with the typical 3 or 4 penalties in a game leading to a game misconduct, x number of PIMS in a season leading to increasing length of suspensions. No body contact, but slapshots are definitely allowed.

Cool, thanks.

From a lot of my research, it would seem that the Allcal actually has better ice times than most winter leagues, so that's why I'm leaning towards them. I played in the CAHL last winter, and although we had good ice times we paid about $12k in fees. NCHL was typically 11:30 or later, and usually in Okotoks or Chestermere, so F that.

I think we should be fine in Div 3, but I really have no idea.

Yeah, but that was for their "preferential" ice times. I think their normal fees were $9k, but the earliest ice was 10:30.
