Last week I was driving home from Nanton and it sounded like it was raining outside, only the "drops" were mosquitos hitting the windshield.

I remember 3 or so years ago, there was a crazy big population of dragonflies and after a couple weeks I never saw another mosquito for the rest of that year. Someone needs to develop a way to economically hatch and distribute massive amounts of dragonflies.

Yeah, because everyone knows that mosquito bites only itch if you're in Winnipeg...oh, wait. They itch no matter where you are.

My GF just commented that that's done by government. We're not sure if they are doing that again or not.

How do wet ponds deter mosquitoes breeding?

Through design, the opportunities for mosquito breeding will be reduced. Standing water that remains for more than one week can become stagnant and is preferred by mosquito larvae. The ponds will normally have a continual base flow (i.e., small continuous flow of water) that will provide movement of the water through the ponds. Mosquitoes also prefer warm shallow water. The ponds will be designed to have a normal depth of up to 3 m (> 10 feet). Predatory species such as dragonflies and frogs typically establish themselves in wet ponds and will also assist in the control of mosquito populations.

Winnipeg is pretty bad, but I've been to places in Montana that would push Winnipeg off the map.

The worst are the ones that bite THROUGH your clothes. You can cover your exposed skin with deet, but then some godforsaken mosquito finds a little hole in the fabric and gets you through there.

I am 9-1 vs mosquito's so far. The 1 being on my back, through a jersey and a t-shirt.

So, does anyone else swell up when they get bit?

Lots of people have told me its not normal. That I have some sort of allergic reaction to those pesky mosquitoes. Cause I always get decent size welts where they bite me.

Anybody else finding they are spending more time inside because of how bad the mosquitoes have gotten.

I don't remember it being this bad in a long time. Didn't they used to fog a long time ago?

Mosquito selection criteria is amazing to me. 6 of us walking to the playground - baby, 4 year old, 6 year old, me, wife, dog.

Baby gets off scott-free, no bites, no attention from the skeeters. Kids relatively unmolested. Dog has a cloud around him, but fuzzy and dumb enough to be unaffected. I get bothered moderately. Wife gets eaten alive.

It's really bad early in the morning while it's still dark out. Just driving to work in the morning the last few days and my front bumper is covered with mosquitoes. It's as bad as if I had a driven out into the country.

probably the scents she uses be it soap, deodorant or perfume


people get welts from slapping the mossy when it bites it leaves part of itself in your flesh that creates the swelling. Just blow it away.

Downtown we don't get any mosquitos but when I am hiking in the mountains the bugs are worse than normal but some good bug spray does the trick.

A few years ago I was on a walk with my wife and father-in-law. My father-in-law was pretty much getting eaten alive while we weren't being bothered at all. He went back to the car, and suddenly we got swarmed. There must be something about certain people that just attracts them.

there are some theories and I cant remember if actually proven but sugar content in one's diet has some effect too.

If anyone was at Big Valley Jamboree... it was unreal.

Probably 150 + bites in that 3 days. Massive packs everywhere.

The only time they didn't come out was when it got too hot.
