After witnessing the line at Market Mall, and checking around, I finally said screw it and ordered it online. 3 weeks for shipping!

I'm actually not some blind apple supporter. I have had a number of blackberrys. The old brick world edition, the old bold and the (shudder) storm. Great phone for e-mail and BBM but the number of times I dealt with freezeups or just painful slowness I couldn't take it anymore. My roommate swears by them, but really only because he loves the physical keyboard.
Long story short, apple does make a good (albeit pricy) phone. It is funny how quick people dismiss the other side...but I can do everything on my phone now and my old 3G.
Those that are on the android phones, the biggest problem is the speed and lack of support these denvices seem to get post launch. The Google phone? Yes nexus one is already being discontinued...
Use what you wanna use but I love my iPhone and iPad ..and this coming from a guy that hated Mac a few years ago

And I could say the same about my 3G and the updated OS. Drove me crazy with the slowness and freezeups. I have had ZERO issues with the Bold 9700. So each to their own.

It's for my parents. They loved mine so much they wanted one. My mom has some crazy flu right now so she's stuck in the house and bored. My family is heading to a reunion tomorrow and she's bummed she can't go. I wanted to get it for her so she'd have something to keep her occupied and she can email us while we're away (yes we've tried laptops and they just don't work for her).
I tried elsewhere but nobody had the model I was looking for.

As for the whole Android vs iOS debate, my money is on Google to have a larger market share. Android is like the new Windows. In terms of being able to run on multiple devices from different manufactures. That alone will vault it ahead of the iPhone. Want an iPhone? One choice of phone. Want an Android? Here is a choice of like 10 phones. The open platform is key to putting Google ahead, whether or not that is a better consumer experience is Apples big deal.

So, it turns out that there are "a few" people who are eligible for the $159 early upgrade, but who aren't appearing in the actual system at the Rogers stores.
I'm one of them, and I dicked around for 5 hours yesterday and this morning trying to get it sorted out. The culmination? It's a known issue that has a affected "a few" people, and they expect to have it resolved by early next week.
Right. Like that was going to be enough. I called Retentions, and they gave me the iPad sharing addon for free and added another 100 minutes to my Retention plan.
350 Minutes
Unlimited Incoming Calls
6PM Evenings and Weekends
Unlimited Text
Call/Name Display, etc etc
Visual Voicemail
6GB Data
iPad Sharing
$80 including taxes (no SAF)

Haven't set it up yet with my apps and contacts, will do that today. Tried the death grip in my house...nothing happened. Good to know I have a strong signal where I live and work (downtown).
As for the whole standing in line thing. Wouldn't do that again and I don't recommend it. It wouldn't have been too bad if Rogers computers weren't getting slaughtered and the whole process wasn't really working. Although everyone in line was very nice and we all talked with each other. Two people brought their dogs which was a good distraction. Most people in line had iPhones and everyone else had a blackberry. All smart phone customers. I am happy now but it wasted much more of my day than I planned.
Oh and the difference between the 4 and my old 2G is night and day no contest.

were you at shawnessy?? Pretty much the same people you described were there including the guy with the 2G

How do you know you're eligible for $169? Does the site tell you? The site tells me $749 (for 32 gigs) but when I call Rogers they say $499.

The site tells me, and Rogers has confirmed it over the phone. The problem is that info hasn't made its way into the systems that the stores use.

The tool says 159$ for me, which doesn't make sense since the early HUP offer is only for previous iPhone customers.

Site told me $499 and when I got the phone yesterday, $269, and that will show up on the next bill.
Signed up for the 6GB/$30 a month plan. Wish I could go on a plan like you guys do, but most of my calls are to the same 3-5 numbers, so I have nation wide MY5 so the long distance changes don't destroy me.

I believe $159/269 is also for customers who upgraded almost 2 years ago and/or have had consistently high phone bills in the past year. Rogers wasn't very clear about non-iPhone customers, that's the problem.
I have nationwide my10 (I'm a student), so will be adding the 6GB plan as well whenever I get my phone.

My bills used to be high, but i last had a HUP in January of 2009 (Blackberry).
So that would still run on a 24 month HUP i believe- even if I was somehow eligible I doubt it is the 159 price, but maybe would have been the 399$ price.
Bought unlocked anyway, so irrelavent
This Phone is.......faaaaaaaast. The screen is just amazing.
Only been able to replicate deathgrip in one of many locations, and even then went from 5 to 4 bars.
I haven't installed 4.0.1 yet though (which will make no difference except maybe show me 4 bars instead of 5 to boot)
Also, I would like to point out something that I am incredibly happy about. Not since phones have had external antennas have I been able to get reception in my basement. No smartphone I have tried even gets a bar on EDGE/GRPS, my Bold 9700, 9000 and android phones i have tried. My iPhone 4 gets 4 bars on 3G. Simply amazing!

They are allowing early HUPs on a case by case basis it seems. I last upgraded 16 months ago.. but then again I'm only eligible for $499 (I'm going for 32 gigs, iPod is dying). I imagine if it was a couple more months than that and my bills were higher (currently $100/month, no data plan), I'd be closer to the $269 upgrade price.
I did get to play around with one in store though, very nice, Love the screen.
