Drowning takes a couple of minutes...although that would be horrible. But maggots eating half of your back....who knows how long that would take.

It doesn't sound like he felt it at all.

Its funny though, I remember always hearing that freezing to death wasn't so bad. But I picked up hypothermia in the field and I have to tell you that near freezing to death is extremely painful.

Aren't maggots used to actually clean out wounds? I'm pretty sure they only eat the dead flesh....sounds like it was a bed sore that killed him...

Yes, but I'm pretty sure that they are only placed on the wound for a couple of days then replaced with new maggots. The maggots aren't allowed to fully mature so I don't know if they only stick to dead flesh when left unattended. I'm so disgusted from this story anyway.

How the hell could that other person live there and just deal with it? They must have seen the maggots and probably resulting flies. Sick.

He probably hadn't been moved for a while. combine that with refusing to be cleaned for years.
