My 360 was a year old after launch and I didn't have any issues. But I don't miss having a console that sounds like a 747 taking off.

My PC has 18 times the ram of the Xbox 360. Does that make it better at playing games? Not neccessarily. It comes down to software as always. The Xbox has more modern mainstream games than I can ever buy for PC.

Curious, how much RAM do the 360 and the PS3 have?
It never bothered me that the PS3 only came with A/V cables. I get that a lot of people still don't have HD TVs. I had a component cable which I'd bought for my PS2, but even the difference between that and the HDMI cable, made the $20 for the HDMI one worth it.

IIRC, Xbox 360 has 512MB shared ram and the PS3 has 256MB system and 256MB video memory. In my opinion, they stretch these limited resources like you can't imagine. Developers really work hard to squeeze in what they can with very lean and optimized code and resources. The way the two systems address memory and processors is very different too, and that leads to why many companies develop for Xbox first and then port to PS3 and many lazy developers usually do a bad job since it's a very different architecture. Ghostbusters is the most extreme case of this that I've seen where the PS3 actually runs at a lower resolution than the Xbox and has many shader effects missing and inferior textures.
I don't understand why these companies do not include HD cables, unless they are in collusion with the video cable or big box retail companies which want to profit off unknowing consumers. As I said previously, I bought component and HDMI cables for PS3 off ebay for less than $4 shipped so it's not a matter of cost. In bulk, it would probably cost Microsoft/Sony less than a dollar per cable to add one to the box. Do Microsoft or Sony sell "official" HD cables? I don't recall seeing these but I don't pay much attention in the console isles.

Yeah, I'd heard Sony systems can be difficult to develop for in comparison. Of course, I'm no developer, so I know next to nothing about that. =P
I imagine that once HD becomes more 'standard' (like A/V plugs are now - and provided HD doesn't eventually get replaced by something else), the companies would box HDMI cables in with their consoles. Since it was cheap, it didn't bother me. Back when I bought component cables, they were $40 for the Sony brand and $40 for Nintendo-brand ones for my Wii. I believe each company puts out their own first-party HDMI cables too (except Nintendo. Why doesn't the Wii support HD?!) but I just bought some 3rd party one this time around.

Both have their strong points but personally I find myself buying the 360 version of a game over the PS3 version unless the PS3 version has an exclusive feature not found on the 360 version.

I don't think I've touched my Xbox in quite some time now...
For the PS3, Personally I enjoy the Japanese games...and because BluRay has Japan and NA in the same region...it makes life a whole lot easier.

More often than not I usually do the same thing. I find that some PS3 games that have Xbox 360 counterparts aren't as polished. The only game I went with on the PS3 without caring about performance difference is Grand Theft Auto simply because I played all the others on the PS2 and wanted to play the next one on a Playstation.

I have owed both 360 and PS3 and I find the PS3 much better.
I had 2 360's die while my PS3 has never let me down. Having a built in BluRay is also very nice.

Yeah, the only games I can think of that I picked the PS3 over the 360 version was Smackdown vs RAW 2009 & UFC Undisputed 2010 because of exclusive characters; Batman: Arkham Asylum because of the Joker Challenge Rooms; and I've pre-ordered Mafia 2 because of the exclusive DLC.
The only games I've picked the PS3 over the 360 because of performance and polish was Burnout: Paradise.
I do have both Assassin's Creeds on PS3 but that decision was pretty much based off of how you can connect AC2 and AC: Bloodlines to get certain items.

One size does not fit all in this case. My 4ft HDMI cable ($7 from monoprice btw) might not work for joe blow #4 who needs a 12 ft because his HDTV is mounted on his wall. Length does affect quality, and there are different gauges of cable you can buy (for example, if you want to go in the wall you might want a larger gauge).
Component cables on the other hand...they should at least provide those.

I'm pretty sure the 360 comes with component cables at when the PS3 first came out they were bundling HDMI cables with the unit.

My 60GB classic PS3 didn't come with an HDMI cable. but I also didn't buy it when it was first available, so maybe they changed.
I'm suprised Sony, in particular, wouldn't want everyone to hop on the HDMI bandwagon by including a HDMI cable - it gets people on a output format that support DRM, after all.

I bought a launch unit and there was no hdmi cable included. Monoprice FTW!
There was a question on a podcast I was listening to today ... what 360 exclusives would you want to come to ps3? I honestly couldn't think of a single one. I'm not trying to start a fanboy war, I was just shocked at how few exclusives the 360 has that interest me. Halo is ok in my books, project gotham is pretty fun, but beyond that I couldn't think of anything. The RPG games are pretty much the top tier stuff but I'm not an RPG fan.
I do prefer the controller, but beyond that the 360 doesn't do it for me. Shame about the performance issues though, I would have bought one just for the controller alone.

you know, now that i think about it, why hasn't mad catz or some other controller manufacturer made ps3 controllers that are the size and layout of xbox controllers and vice versa? perhaps they do exist, but for all the times i hear people use controller preference as a reason why they like a system more, i assume there isn't much out there. i recall reading a few times about enthusiasts making their own modded controllers, but you would think there would be a decent market for the controls that emulate the feel of the other system.

Hell of it is, HDMI cables are cheap if you buy them at the right places.
Incredible how much they get marked up.

I'm pretty sure somebody on here has linked to an adapter that actually lets you plug a 360 controller into a ps3.

As for the comparison, setting up the PS3 as a media server is easy, so I love that part.
The games I'd imagine are pretty comparable. But the fact that the PS3 plays blueray is makes it a winner IMO.

The Mass Effect series. That's the only 360 games I want on the PS3, personally.

I was under the impression the the PS3 can play games from any region, but is locked down for movies.
