I wouldn't begrudge City fans a little success. They have been taking their licks from United for a long time now.

this from the BBC just made me laugh
1341 BST: Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted it will take a £50m offer to persuade him to sell star striker Kevin Doyle.
"Look, if Manchester United come in and offer the club £50m and give him 200 grand a week, I can't keep him," said McCarthy.
and anytime Mick McCarthy is mentioned

Vidic could be for sale.

I hope United keep him, he's terrible.

Vidic is so overrated it's not even funny. He has no coordination, he's defied the laws of physics with his headers (in a bad way), and he couldn't anticipate a timed challenge if his life depended on it... as a Gunners sympathizer I too hope he stays there this season because Chamakh is going to make him look like a clown.

Watching Torres make Vidic look like an idiot has my warmed my heart many a time.
Overrated is putting it mildly.

Well I haven't posted here in a long time and last time i did i got banned. I have a few choice words for Vidic but im keeping it to myself haha .
The worst is that this city is just filled with people that support Man Utd, and they will not stop raving about how each player is so good even though the combo of Ferdinand and Vidic pave highways for oncoming strikers. John O'Shea, Johnny Evans, these guys are awful.
But Im jealous they have Obertan, i really like that guy, i wish he would come to Fenerbahce at least on loan or something, he'd actually play every game and not be treated like a 2nd rate sub all the time.

not surprisingly the supposed "interest" that Mancini said he had in Donovan was simply because he was asked in the United States and he wanted to be nice
would make no sense for them to want him, and even for him to go there
he would be 4th or 5th choice at his position

Good ol 'Arry spouting off again, God maybe if he would have kept his mouth shut for the past month Cole would be a Spurs player, hardly a day has gone by without some mention of him by Redknapp and he's still talking after he's signed for someone else. Oh yeah and Tottenham can win the title apparently, hah!

don't really see any spouting off there
and about the title
"I feel we could contend for the title; we have got the players here," added Redknapp.
"We have to aim for it. We could win the championship.
"Last year, we went in saying we wanted to finish in the top four and if you don't aim for things, you have no chance."
not exactly saying they are favorites for it or even saying they are going to win the title just saying that is their goal, a club should always be aiming for the next step up and having finished in the top 4 last season which was his goal he has made a new goal for the club
is he supposed to say they have no shot at it?

Or he could go with the third option of just saying nothing.

I am guessing he was asked a question on their goals for this season
they are on tour in America and he is getting a ton of questions everyday from different media outlets
but even if he wasn't, its not exactly hidden what his goal is now that he achieved the last one. Its not like he is going to come out and say "I hope we contend for 3rd"
competing for the title has been the goal of every other team who has finished in the top 4 the season prior, would it be silly for Wenger to say it? (not at all in my opinion) and they only finished 5 points ahead of Spurs last season
"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."- Bill Nicholson

Solidifying your top four position would be a worthy goal.

Whatever, hes just setting the bar high. Most coaches do it, you always want the next year to be an improvement on the last year.

However, there are a few things to consider:
- Finishing in the top four and winning the league are two accomplishments that are miles apart.
- For a new team in the top four finishing in the top four in two consecutive seasons is a difficult task because of the increased workload in the second season.
- You have to make sure you stay ahead of the top four contenders.
That is why a top four finish is quite an improvement on the achievements Spurs made last year and setting the bar high.

Fair enough, playing in all those competitions is going to be really tough in a team thats not accustomed to doing it. I think its partly to blame for where Liverpool fell, they just didnt have the depth. Stevie and Torres cant play all game, every game in every competition.

I think the league is more wide open than it has been in the premier league era
I think there are 6 teams that could win the league, although Chelsea and Man U are and should be favorites. (Liverpool, Spurs, Man City, Arsenal)
and I think there are 8 teams that could finish top 4 (Everton, Villa)
and a number of teams who will contend for the last Europa league spot (Sunderland, Fulham, Blackburn)
now obviously I named 11 teams for 7 spots and some of them will have bad seasons and 'underperform'
but there is not a lot that would surprise me this season in the league

and I don't think the increased workload will be a problem for Spurs, they have been in the Europa before, and this past year they didn't rest players for Carling cup/early round FA Cup games
The subs/youth players will get a run out in those cup games to lessen the work load, and they are still going to bring in 2-3 more players from the sounds of it
and while it hurt Liverpool I think that had more to do with the lack of depth around Steve and Fernando because the owners wouldn't bring it in, so in a game where those two weren't 100% there was no one else to really create
