Edit

Her parents allowed her on the computer after the video with her father was posted.
Then this video was made.
NSFW - Just to be safe, some written swears in text, cant recall if the girl says any to lazy to watch again right now.

Wow, some people shouldnt be allowed to procreate. I am guessing when she was younger she was the kid that was allowed to ball her eyes out on a plane or an eatery without any disciple whatsoever. I dont know those parents but I already dislike them.

I don't know... that father seems to have anger issues. He doesn't seem like the type that would put up with that on a plane... or even the type that would be on a plane.

I am wondering if there isn't abuse in the family. An 11 year old posting nude pictures of herself sounds like sexual disfunction to me.

my take on this: It's an 11 year old kid who got caught up in an argument in a forum where there were no rules and no boundaries. It used to be the school yard where, in a super serious incident, someone would lose an eye because of a rock or something stupid done in the heat of the moment.

Now it's the internet and she's likely done permanent damage to herself but in a different way. Her parents are outraged and understandably so. They are lashing out at everyone and everything. They are not the first parents whose 11 year old screwed up in a huge fashion, and they won't be the last. They are one of the first whose 11 year old screwed up and now there is international attention being put on them. They don't have the tools to react - I'm not sure many would. If they are getting death threats at their house and people phoning up impersonating child protection services and the like, then they have a right to be pissed. I would be too.

It's interesting that police are involved, because they have a good angle on this one in respect of the alleged nude photos. Anyone who looked at them and that can be proven has then looked at child porn. That's a hell of a stigma and a slam dunk conviction. I imagine there are some computer whiz folks at the FBI or that Bill Gates funded policing agency who will be all over this because of the notoriety.

I'm sure there is also all sorts of one on one sessions happening to make sure there is no abuse (physical, mental or sexual) in the household. That would be one of the first things the cops would do.

Another angle on this is that those same people who ganged up on this 11 year old and her family for sport are the same type who will get bored of this easily. I'd bet a lot of money it won't take too long before they turn on themselves and there is all sorts of tips to the police on who is distributing what photos or who has seen the photos or what and this is where you will see an arrest or two get made.

In Canada I think a media ban would certainly be entertained given the age of the girl and the allegation that there are nude photos on the net of her. In Canada, I suspect the parents would not have the same level of publicity outside of the viral world. Interesting.

I don't know Addiction, then there must be a ton of sexual abuse happening out there, because this minors exposing themselves on the net sounds like its becoming a pretty common event.

The biggest problem with the internet and unsupervised kids, are that kids are stupid, gullible and they think that they're forming cool awesome bitchin friendships on the web, and they're doing whatever they're told by people that are older and more saavy then they are.

Kids will often do things on first instinct and then cry about the mistake that they can't take back later.

And yes, a lot of that falls on the parent because kids don't communicate because they're first thought is that "I'm in total sh$t and I don't want to deal with it.

As much of a set of hardasses as my parents were, they set up the lines of trust and communication with myself and my sisters with the understanding that if you admit to your crime now, you probably won't be in poop, if you admit it after stuff blows up you're freakin dead.

In this case this girls and her parents are lashing out long after the horses have not only left the yard, but the state.

Or the kid is just a brat who has terrible parents who thought proper discipline was a 5 minute timeout in the corner of which she spend a whole 30 seconds there before her parents felt sorry for her. She is probably spoiled as he77 as well, classic spoiled brat syndrome.

It's pretty hard to prove that somebody was looking at child porn. Having images stored in your temp folder is not concrete evidence, as for all anyone knows you were just harmlessly browsing 4chan where anyone can post anything. Besides, there's no way to prove that anyone looking at these photos knew she was under 18.

When it comes to child porn there's no room for grey areas, it's a very serious charge. Typically the ones who get busted are the ones uploading it or the ones who have collections permanently stored on their computers. Probably nothing will come of this, especially since there were thousands and thousands of people who saw the photos.

Agreed it's a serious charge, but if you have it on your temp folder and the cops find it, then it's your burden to prove that you weren't accessing it. The cops just have to show it's on your computer.

If it is on your computer and you're found to be commenting on it online, then I think it's that much more unlikely that you'll be able to rebut the presumption that you were looking at it.

In addition to the part where Jessi was back on line later that day seemingly having not learned her lesson, the update at the foot of the OP's link suggests they may have been exaggerating the threats in the first place:

Quote:
Update: A spokeswoman for the Marion County, Florida sheriff's department confirms that they are investigating a case regarding an 11-year-old girl with details that closely matches Jessi Slaughter's story. However, the Sheriff's office says that they're only investigating allegations that there are pornographic photos of her online. "Basically we're just investigating if these pictures do actually exist," the spokeswoman says. They're also looking into prank calls to Jessi's house that have referenced the alleged photos.
And the death threats Jessi's mom told us about? "There have been no death threats or threats of harm in any way" towards Jessi, according to the spokeswoman

That's not quite how burden of proof works. It is the prosecution's job to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone was knowingly and willingly accessing child porn. All the defense has to do is plant that reasonable doubt do get their client off the hook, which is very easy to do if the only evidence presented is files stored on a temp folder. There are lots of ways for files to end up there without someone even knowing or acknowledging their existence. It doesn't prove anything. Like I said, child porn charges are usually reserved for the ones uploading it or the ones who have a collection of it saved somewhere.

the prosecution has to prove the act and the intent. If you can find someone who has this on their computer and then started yakking about it online or sending it to your online friends or sending derogitory messages back to the girl, I think you're most of the way there.

I'd put that one in front of a judge.
