He already backed off after she said they were offensive and that she didn't appreciate it. I wanted to get HR involved, but shes too nice and didnt want him to lose his job.

Those cartoons are hilariously stupid. They believe they are being so humble, loving and nonjudgmental, but they end up being so unbearably self-righteous and blind... is that any better?

I don't blame her for not wanting to involve HR, though. Just so long as he does not continue.

Chick tracts.. the worst one of all time has to be this one, they don't even show it on their site its so bad:

As to the guy misrepresenting himself, that's what happens when cognitive dissonance runs amok.

EDIT: If you keep telling a story enough times, eventually you will believe it yourself and will even change your memory of events.

You should read the comics.

Over the top wouldn't even begin to explain it properly.

Comics as in these.

See for me, what I absolutely can't stand about that comic, or all of the other ones is the impression that the guy can kneel down and pray, and suddenly his whole life is changed for the 'better.'

I've always felt that its a process.

Those comics make it seem like the guy prayed, and suddenly he's not going to look at porn again, ever.

The guy prayed, and suddenly the fact that he raped his daughter is ok is more like it.

not just ok in terms of sins forgiven/getting square with god. so ok that the doctor doesn't see the need to report incest, child molestation and various sex crimes.

Well, modern western secular society basically puts child offenders into rehab. It's not like they get their balls chopped off and stoned by an angry mob.

Exactly.

He just 'prayed' and everything he did just went away. I honestly don't get the thinking process.

And the comics are ALL like that. Either he's drunk, or he beat someone, listened to 'bad' music, etc, etc....suddenly he prayed, and then everything is alright.

I know you're sorta joking, but I think common sense tells you that there are major mental issues with someone that rapes his own daughter, and stuff like that needs to be treated by the 'law'....or a professional therapist that would be assigned by the state.

Even if I DO believe that God can make a difference in certain people's lives, I do not for one second believe that the difference can be SO astounding that a child rapist will be clean right after he prays to God for forgiveness.

He may have corrected his wrong on a spiritual level, but like I said, some major mental issues going on, and that needs to be dealt with.

Nevermind the fact that the guy needs to be in prison for raping his own daughter. Its VERY interesting that the comic does not focus on that AT ALL. Nothing about breaking the LAW. Nothing about how sick and wrong it is, and how the father should be taken away from his family forever, how the child should be given counseling. NOTHING.

I understand what you mean. But you have to admit that western society as a whole is VERY forgiving for even the most heinous of acts.

Unreal. I know a person who is planning on going to Liberty University next year. He's pretty fired up about it, but the more I hear him talk about what campus is like, the more I think it's closer to a cult/Bible camp than a legitimate university.

Anyone else have more information about Liberty?

And Fred Phelps went to Three Hills.

True. Although a different discussion.

Harsher punishment for crimes like rape, murder, abuse, etc, etc should have been introduced a LONG time ago.

I just find it weird that people are shocked at the "prayer gives forgiveness", when that's exactly what western societies try to do with so-called rehabilitation.

My father went to Three Hills, and so did my wife... Come to think of it, when I was training for professional ministry, I believe that my mentor was also a "Prairian".

And your impressions of Three Hills are?

I have family members that went there. I don't particularly hold much of the school because of certain viewpoints those family members hold that seem to have been taught at Three Hills.

Whenever I need to backup my case, because I don't really know what the school is about I just say Fred Phelps went there.

Most of the people I know from Three Hills are good people. Sincere and honest, and well intentioned, but in many regards—and like so many who are misled by sensationalistic religions—terribly misguided.

Three Hills is the sort of place which does not make a practice of propogating hate or discrimination, but it is certainly a place in which such ideas could form. As with all kinds of religious sectarianism, the fundamentalist, dispensational leanings of the old Prairie Bible Institute, or like Bob Jones or Liberty University depend on a very sharp insider / outsider group identity. These sorts of religious fringe groups basically define themselves according to what they are not, and in so doing, are highly prone to all sorts of horrible ideas.
