Default Calgary wedding reception ideas...well kind of

My fiancee and I will be getting married in Mexico this winter and we want to hold a very casual reception a few weeks after we are back. We are looking at some community centres but they seem rather dated. Can anyone recommend a place that might allow you to BYOB with a corkage fee that isn't outlandish? Also, we are not planning on a full dinner but more just appitizers/finger food. I imagine there would be 100-150 people but we really just want it to be causual and people can come and go as they please.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a regular reception your going to plan, most of which is going to include a room charge too, which sucks. Depends what area of town your in for location. You could do a community lake or a city park as a casual idea?

All rooms seem dated to me and if they are not, they cost a fortune, and corkage is so skewed these days that you may as well buy from the hotel.

Try the Mckenzie Towne community hall or the Auburn Bay comunity hall. Both are fairly new buildings and may do the trick. I think Cranston has a brand new hall as well.

Congrats!

Friends had one in Cranston this summer, good sized hall for a small reception and a nice building. Try to make up your mind soon though because a lot of places are really tough to book, even for a smaller reception

I was hoping for something more inner city however we may have to go this route if we can't find anything as these seem to be much newer.

Try the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. You can't fully BYOB, but you can bring your own wine and the corkage wasn't totally outrageous. The room is nice and doesn't require any decorating and their food was decently priced. This was 4 years ago fwiw.

MacEwan Hall at the UofC has a really big room, but also rents out the smaller ballroom, which might be a good size for your reception.

try the pioneer cabin. You may need to know someone who is a member, but it is a central location up on top of a hill with a great facility, great deck, good grass areas, and you can do it all yourself there.
