Default The IPCC consensus is phoney: According to Mike Hulme

NP
The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change misled the press and public into believing that thousands of scientists backed its claims on manmade global warming, according to Mike Hulme, a prominent climate scientist and IPCC insider. The actual number of scientists who backed that claim was “only a few dozen experts,” he states in a paper for Progress in Physical Geography, co-authored with student Martin Mahony.

Page 10 and 11
Claims such as ‘2,500 of the world’s leading scientists have reached a consensus that human activities are having a significant influence on the climate’ are disingenuous.

Now this certainly doesn't put to rest the AGW theory. But it sure puts another gaping hole into the good ship IPCC-Titanic hull of credibility as a source of information on this topic.

One might think that those "stolen e-mails" might not be so stolen after all.

I think some people mistake consensus for unanimity.

Well climate change is a fact of life regardless of whether we are here or not. It is a fundamental driving force behind evolution of all species, it is the reason why we are here, the reason why we left africa and a reason why we have been able to populate this earth. The climate changes and has been changing since the beginning of time. There is no doubt that humans have a effect on the climate as we tear down forest and habitats for our cities and farms and drive our millions of cars and burn tons and tons of fossill fuels..Not sure how anyone can deny we don't leave our mark. The question is how much of a role we are playing in the current changes in climate we see...their are def much stronger and bigger forces out there....The focus should be really on what we can do as individuals to lead a more sutainable life...and be prepare for how our world will be changing in the next few hundred years. Humanity has had it pretty good with a fairly stable climate the last 1000 years, but that isn't the norm and regardless of the the cause of change...we need to be ready and adapt.

At first glance I thought so too; but I think he is trying to make a point that an academic supports his position or something? Either way, its not really lending anything to things.

The article is about the IPCC as a mechanism. Nowhere does he critique the canon of science that supports the hypothesis that humans are warming the planet.
