Italy didn't get many chances until Paraguay started tiring. An even game until the last 20-25 minutes or so. Attacking Italy that hard caught up to the Paraguayans. Still, if not for the misjudged corner kick by the Paraguayan keeper, they would have earned a victory, not just stolen one.

Paraguay shouldn't have too much trouble with the other two teams in the group, I don't think.

I find it funny how so many people here are against the vuvuzelas, yet Calgary is the worst city in the NHL by far for using them. It has gotten better recently though, it used to be downright obnoxious.

Strangely, 1-2 horns can be more annoying than 60,000.

I'd like to see this in both hockey and soccer. There are enough camera angles that it should be fairly easy to prove the clear dives. You don't need to stop the play, but anything questionable should be reviewed and, if guilty of a blatant dive, they sit the next one out.

Is it a good idea to review something subjective? For example De Rossi. I'm sure there are people out there that thought he got tripped or just fell down.
Even the announcer on CBC upon seeing the replay was like "oh, did he get clipped there!?" What if one of these people are the reviewer?

It would be harder in hockey since players are on skates and can I think lose balance easier than land. I think referees in this World Cup so far have done a good job not being conned. Dives, like the De Rossi one are just plain ignored.

^We make those tough calls all the time here on CP! Just put the video evidence up and a poll and we'll be happy to start calling the dives that the referees seem to miss!

I agree on all points. The reffing has been pretty good so far with ignoring dives. I think that if they were going to implement something like a suspension based on video evidence, it would have to be absolutely certain. If all of the HD, slow motion, multiple angles, etc. can't prove something, they should definitely get the benefit of the doubt.

Has FIFA come out and said why they don't do post-game diving reviews and add suspensions? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

This is why soccer will never be taken seriously here in North America.

That, and it's up to the Referee to decide when to end the game and the half?hahahaha

Soccer will never be taken seriously over here because it takes the back seat to sports like hockey (Canada) and baseball/football (USA).

All the money get's funneled to those two sports, leaving soccer with a small fraction of the money. But it's gaining momentum in both USA and Canada, slowly.

It has nothing to do with diving or the officiating, at least in my opinion.

It's gaining alot of momentum in the US. The money and attention ESPN has poured into this tournament is astounding. It was only since 1994 that people in the US even knew what a World Cup was.

If the US does well, the sport will skyrocket.

I hope so. I would love to see another World Cup in the US. Sadly, I was too young last time to get on a plane and attend some of the games.

They're bidding for 2018 and 2022 so here's hoping.

My friend is trying to defend that dive saying he was clipped on the way down. Terrible.

There you go.

The thing to me is that De Rossi isn't rolling around peering at the ref and asking for a foul. He's just pissed about getting clipped, so maybe he did. It's hard to see it though.

I'm pretty sure it'll go to Europe in 2018 and US in 2022

Bullcrap. His head swung back before he started going down, embellishing the dive. It's obvious.

In any case, I'll live with it. Soccer's still the second greatest game in the world.

Was having a talk about that with my friend's fiance over the weekend, he moved here from Australia last year and grew up playing soccer. He was saying something similar, of how he says the whole diving thing is part of soccer culture, but in North America we just didn't grow up with that mentality so when we see it we think its beyond ridiculous, we just don't get it. He attributed it to one of the big reasons its not huge over here, his 2 cents anyways.

Sorry to the Azzuri fans on here, but I think that team's embarassing with all that crap. I don't care how skilled they are, I can't cheer for a team that pulls that garbage. It's like cheering for the Canucks. I really enjoy watching soccer at the World Cup, I just need to steer clear of Italy games.
