Reagan would have communicated to the well that he was the leader of the free world and unless it wanted to endure the wrath of the most powerful nation on Earth, it better stop leaking.

Reagan would have already used the nuke. Just to intimidate the Russians.

Bush would have invaded Russia to steal their oil specialists in order to plug the leak.

Lots of action this afternoon on the live camera. They appear to be doing some cutting right now.

##Pretty good video to help people understand what they are doing.

Wow it's so complicated. Not! 'Let's drill more wells and get 'dat oil out of the ground quick!' Aie aie, good plan. 'There is a tremendous amount of activity'.. oh, well it's been 2 months there better be. 'We are capturing 2000 barrels of oil per day'.. uhh how many millions have spilt? They don't even think top kill will work. They have 'primary kill vessels' , the 'Blue Dolphin??' Talk about propaganda naming conventions. Oh and they decided to bring in the 'starship enterprise'.
This guy is obviously good at damage control, but I urge you to read between the lines here. They should have qeued the star wars theme song at the end. Thank you for your 'tremendous effort'.

If you're going to be critical at least get things right. It's been 41 days. 44 million gallons...which is just over a million barrels (41 gallons per barrel). 2000 barrels a day recovered is much better than zero.
Of course they didn't assume the top kill would work, that would be stupid to depend on one solution and open up more project risk. It would be akin to thinking this was a simple process.
I hate this event, it's going to have great ramifications on the ocean and thus our lives. BP may have fooked up originally and for that they will pay dearly. BP may have been able to react more quickly or done things differently in hindsight but that's all Monday morning quarterbacking. Leave some of the rhetoric out of it and focus on what is being done and the resources which are on site, that's the important message of the video.

Celebrated Square Root Day

Does anyone else enjoy living in Canada and watching how Americans and their media go about life? It's always amazing just how fanatical they are about politics.
Every little thing (and I'm not suggesting this is a little thing) that happens there, sends everyone into a frenzy over whether the President did everything perfect, or is the biggest screw up in history, depending on what side each person is on.

If Bush can be blamed for a hurricane, Obama should be blamed for a oil spill! I have been through a hurricane, I can't imagine how bad of a spot those people were in. Now we have a brutal 'leak' deep under water, this is certainly not going to end well at all. I think they are going to have to nuke it.

Bush wasn't blamed for a hurricane. He was blamed for appointing an incompetent buddy to head up FEMA, a government agency. Obama is being blamed for not being angry enough at a private corporation that operates entirely outside government control.
The situations aren't really all that comparable.
Though in the end, this is just how politics works--and it's the risk Obama took when he caved in on offshore drilling.

Exactly. While I'm as disappointed as anyone about this, the reality is that sometimes these things happen. I also love how the US goes after BP and conveniently forgets all about Transocean right away.

Well 2,000 barrels a day on 1 million. Not so good. I'm saying it's millions because it has surpassed one million so far and it has not yet stopped.
They started slowing the leak by say day 10 that's 60,000. Lol, and these are BP estimates. 6% at best. They now expect to stop the well leak by August. What will the number be then? Rhetoric aside this is simply brutal. They cheaped out on the casings for profit, didn't have a backup plan and have been slow to react. Much better than zero? Are you kidding me? That's what you call a drop in the bucket in laymans terms.

I would absolutely love that the outcome of this is that BP was criminally negligent or chose something for cost savings, that is the ideal outcome for me, with jail time for some BP folk. Unfortunately I doubt that will happen.

Wasn't it Bush that opened up the Gulf to massive drilling when oil hit $140/BBL? I seem to recall him allowing anyone with a drill and some pipe access to leases a few years back.
I blame Bush!!!

Even if he hadn't caved in on off-shore drilling this would have still happened.
In fact his position on off-shore drilling is simply being manipulated by the media to blame him for this. Its ridiculous.
