They haven't been lazy, they have broadened their horizon. They have expanded massively.
Read a book on franchising a company, then maybe you'll get it.
Note: I agree with your point about fresher = better tasting, but it simply isn't possible.

I look at my own reasons for not buying more Krispy Kreme and wonder if there were not more people like me:
It was a good 40 minute drive to the store from my house, so not really convenient. Instead of opening a couple more locations, they chose to send them to Wal-Mart, gas stations, etc. The problem is I really don't make the connection between "fresh" and "Wal-mart." So I would never buy them.
I also always saw a lot of them there; once again with no indication of how many days they may have been sitting there. I just cannot see how they managed to not have LOT of waste.
If they had a location near Chinook, and somewhere by the University they would have done well with the people on their way to work.

Even with their donuts, it wasn't that long ago that they were at least cooked in house. I can understand the economics behind the change, but the result is a pretty disgusting product. Apparently others disagree because they keep buying them, but I don't think I'd even eat one if was given to me.

The change was supposed to make the donuts cheaper, but I've heard that the donuts are now more expensive for the tim horton's franchise now that they are centrally made, all things considered.
They are definitely a step down in terms of taste.
I know a guy who used to be a Tim Hortons Baker, and then he turned into a Tim Hortons reheater.

I actually think the old fashioned plain is the best donut Tim's has. Who wants to eat all the sugar on the other ones anyways. I can feel my teeth fallout before I bite in.
The more appropriate question should be, who takes more then 1 cream/1 sugar in their coffee. Those are the real CRAZY's.

I don't really get all the Tim Hortons hate. Yes, the donuts are pre-made now, no, they aren't as good. But they're donuts. This isn't haute cuisine we're talking about. I personally don't mind Tims donuts - even the newfangled centrally-produced corporate sellout ones. They don't leave that starchy taste in your mouth like Robins does, and they aren't 90% air like Krispy Kreme. (which I actually can't stand)
And yes, I even eat the old fashioned plain ones. (although given a choice, I'll take double chocolate any day. )

Redliner, have you ever tasted a GOOD DONUT, like from Delicious Donuts or Voodoo Donuts in Portland? Hot Top Donuts in Seattle? They're not haute cuisine- they're SUPERB cuisine. You make it sound as if we should eat the worse than mediocre GARBAGE TH calls "donuts" because there's not a better alternative. There are- and there would be more if moronic Canadian SHEEP didn't see eating TH manure as some sort of patriotic duty.
The donuts at Safeway absolutely crush, destroy, demolish TH.

The location was terrible and I live about 5 minutes away. If you're going north on 36th st you have to wait about 3-4 minutes at the light just to turn left. I guess they thought having it in a mall parking lot would help their business but I dont think people want to eat Krispy Kreme donuts before or after walking in a mall.
Even the Tim Hortons that is operating there now isn't nearly as busy as it should be.

Not too mention, Tim's coffee isn't even good. Sadly though, most people love their franchises when it comes to restaurants. Yeah sure they provide that level of comfort people want, but come on, go out and at least try some local stuff. Sure you won't like everything you taste but I guarantee you'll find something that kicks that pants off of anything a chain produces. ( In-and-Out burger is exempt from this as they are in the words of Doug from weeds: "independently owned by religious nuts that put biblical citations on the bottoms of the cups. In-N-Out Burger has also made a point of not expanding to the point where they cannot supply their locations with fresh ingredients, something Tim Horton's could stand to learn from. If the price of expansion is drastically lowering the quality of the product then is it worth it? I'm sure TH's shareholders like the expansion, but the food has taken a big hit.
I'll give them credit for one thing though, and that's their marketing. It's pretty amazing how a company that was owned by Wendy's somehow managed to position itself as "Canada's brand" for fast food in the late '90s and on.

Tim Horton's coffee is fine is you compare it to that Van Houtte crap they call coffee at the office. I go 50/50 Tims and McDs though, basically when Tims has a long line I'll go to McDonalds. Their muffins pretty much taste the same anyway. I usually end up having a donut at tim's, so I guess I have terrible taste.
